Philly set to start fining parents of screaming kids in movie theatres!!!!
Woohoo!!! - although it shouldn't count for PG films, R-Rated films DEFINITELY!! There's nothing more off-turning than a screaming kid behind your ear :eyes:

Scroll through area movie listings and the "SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" and "The Incredibles" are among movies offered in Philadelphia theaters after 7 p.m.

But bringing a child under 6 to those PG-rated movies could result in a fine to the adult and the theater, if a proposed bill is passed by City Council.

An adult who brings a child to a movie with a rating other than G after p.m. would be fined up to $50; the theater would be fined up to $300.

"I think anybody who went to see 'Spiderman' at 9 at night and had a screaming baby next to them can appreciate why this bill should be looked at," Hawkins said.

Nothing goes better with that gourmet meal you saved for weeks for than a teething child!

9. I welcome the noises of a happy child...
But the noises of a spoiled brat on the other hand, I want to smack. Shut your kids up, people. Don't bring them to upscale restaurants.

that the offspring spouting masses will have long forgotten :-)

23. It's not the child I want to smack
It's the parents who let their little brats act like hellions and ignore them like they're not there. If I can hear them screaming, I know damn good and well that their parents can too.

I know I'm getting old because I can say I remember when I was little. My parents wouldn't take me or my brother anywhere until they knew we could act properly. And all it took when we got out of line was that look and one simple question - "Do I need to take you to the bathroom?"

24. I'm a mommy and I agree!!!
I have kids and I love them dearly, but I will not bring them to the fancy schmancy restaurants (well, I'd probably bring my daughter now, but she's almost 13, but my boys need VERY informal and a drill Sergeant still).

In fact, there has been many a night that I paid big bucks to babysitter to have grown up time in grown up places only to have to listen to someone else's kid(s) whine the entire night.

Yeah, and as far as the original post, I agree as well. We go to G and PG movies in the afternoon or early evening only. If parents can't be responsible on their own, someone else has to be. I agree.

I can't stand rude people at the theater.

16. Now if they can just get the cell phone users...
Everyone has had a movie ruined by someone who just can't put their cell phone down. During the opening weekend of The Blair Witch Project, we were in a packed theater in Atlanta. During a tense scene, someone's phone rang and he actually began to describe the movie to the caller. "Yeah, I'm watching that witch movie. They're running... and they're running... and they're running... now they're yelling..." Suddenly someone stood up and yelled, "Yo man, SHUT THE FUCK UP BEFORE I CRAM YOUR PHONE!" and the audience cheered.

17. I wouldn't even mind if they'd just carry take their kids to the lobby...
...but to just sit there like they're the only ones in the theater

I'm generally against piddly fines like this (and pretty hard to enforce, too), but some parents just don't seem to have a clue. What are you thinking of when you go into a movie like "Saw" with tykes and toddlers?

If you can afford to go to the movies with your kids, you can afford a babysitter.

20. Frankly, parents who bring their kids to movies like "Saw"
should be charged with child abuse, not a monetary fine.

18. In Philadelphia, I have a MUCH worse time with adults talking in
the theater. No shit. They just talk, at normal volume, like they're at home watching the movie on video. They also answer their cell phones and their Nextel walkie talkie things.
