Or something. Were you around then? I was. I literally crapped my pants when I heard the news. Actually, I was crapping my pants pretty much 24/7 in those days. I was about 3 1/2 months old. ;-)
Pop was. He ended up being a bomber pilot in the 8th AAF. My stepfathere and father-in-law were on MTB's in the south Pacific.
Pop flew 30 odd missions before he rotated home. He got started well before the 25 mission rule got started.
On the Monday following the attack, every boy in my step-father's senior class enlisted - all 18 of them. The sisters at the school sent them all their diplomas in May of '42. 17 of the 18 went to the Navy and served in the south Pacific. All 17 came home. The only one who joined the Army was killed in the Battle of the Bulge.
2. Went to monthly meeting of Ancient Aviators today.
Bunch of old fart pilots who gather to bs and talk flying. We have a few members who were in the 8th. Today's speaker was in the Berlin airlift, 1948 & '49. Very interesting.
