Have you seen the new Verizon Wireless Commercial?
The one where the dad comes into the kitchen and the mom is wrapping sweaters and he's like I just got us on the IN plan. Good luck with the Sweaters. And then she switches the name tags and makes the sweaters from the dad and she makes it look like she go the cells? I HATE that woman. That pisses me off. I hate it when they make the dads look like bumbling idiots without their wives around on TV.

1. I hate it even more when tv shows or commercials show the kids
with all the smarts and the parents being so stupid that they're lucky they can tie their shoes.

Yeah, I know the commercial you're talking about. It annoys me too, but for showing dishonesty as being something clever and that a woman would do something sneaky and underhanded to her husband.

7. I totally agree. It also makes women look like opportunistic b*tches.
The kids know that Daddy gets them the "cool" stuff, and Mommy "just gets us clothes or something". MrG goes out and buys one special thing to get them each year and it's always perfect. :hi:

8. Isn't it the dad who is the smart one in this ad?
He thought of the gift that the kids would love. Do you HATE it when women or children are portrayed like this? How about 'dumb' blond female stereotypes? Hate those?

Commercials thrive on making people look dumb and helpless. It shows why they 'need' the product. They also know who their target buyers are. They design their ads for the person likely to make the purchase, so if a man is more likely to purchase the item, they can afford to downplay women and vise versa.

It's manipulation, not commentary about dads in our society. If this tactic didn't work, they wouldn't use it. Try turning off the tv or watching PBS.

9. It seems that in every commercial featuring a family, mom is always tall,
thin, and fashionable, and dad is overweight, slovenly, and couldn't find his ass with both hands and a flashlight.

I hate stereotyping like that!
