how do I disable an old modem's driver?

how do I disable an old modem's driver?
on the new computer I got from my parents, I can't seem to connect because it keeps defaulting for some reason to the old dialup connector they had installed. I know there's some way to disable this, but how do you do it? I'm on Windows 98.

1. Easy
Open 'My Computer'
Open 'Dial Up Networking'
Right-click on the old dial-up network config and choose 'Delete'

2. Baseball bat across the kneecaps.
Then delete the "Dial-up Networking" connexion in "My computer"...
