Poll question: Should I decorate for Christmas?
First, I'm single and not dating currently. So, if I decide to put the lites out in the yard it will be just me putting up and taking down.

I do the Jewish thing with the Blue and White lights because I like the colour. I just don't know not to mention I'm still overly pissed about the election and the effin fundies. So why get all excited and festive when I really want to get midevil on their asses.

Plus I live in a Red state. Maybe I should do all Blue lights.

1. don't let the stupid people spoil your holiday
There is nothing in the words of Jesus to suggest that celebrating his birth should belong to the Pharisees. Decorate and have a blast. I like the blue lights idea, I have a lot of them on my tree already. Maybe I'll take out the remaining reds and replace them with blues! (I have a vintage strand of lights!)

2. Put the wreath on the door
if you get out your funk in the next couple of weeks you still have time to put up a tree if you want.

Your not celebrating Christmas, it's Xmas. It's the celebration of the Winter Solstice. I offer up my tree each year as a sacrifice to the Sun God, to celebrate his return. Be festive, remember, Xmas was Pagan before it was Christian. :headbang:

6. The Christian Reconstructionists hate Christmas.
These guys are the Fundamentalists who truly want to remake the USA into their own ultra-Calvinist vision of the Old Testament. Subjugate women--check! Bring back slavery--cool!

They regard Christmas as the sort of Popish/Pagan holiday that would not be allowed in their ideal society.

So--decorate away! Be creative. Christmas before last, somebody in a nearby neighborhood decorated their porch with a large peace symbol made of Christmas lights. It's still up & always "on" at night.

7. I generally hate the holidays as a rule
I've ranted here numerous times about my dislike for the holidays because I work in retail, so I won't rehash that.

But this is my first holiday in a new house and I thought, what the hell, I'll put up lights. I did it Saturday. Yesterday morning, the three boys next door were outside playing and they came running up to me telling me how much they loved the decorations. They seemed so happy.

So, I guess my point is, decorate, and to hell with the idiot fundies. :D

9. What do fundies have to do with celebrating the holidays?
As above, there are quite a few who do not celebrate Christmas because it has "pagan" overtones. Go for it! I figure, for me anyway, the holidays are the one time in the year that I can feel like a kid again.

11. The Pagan Holiday Was There First
Decorating a tree at the solistice was a pre-Christian custom.
The Christians could not stamp it out, so they moved their own
holiday on top of the old one.

14. I am going to do it too! all white this year
I don't like the look of blue lights on my brick, and I adore the all white look.

Not much, just a good dose of white lights on my hedge in front of my bay window, with the tree in the window behind it.

The true labor of love in my house is the TREE! It is large, and we have a TON of ornaments.

I think I will have a much better mood with my lights up. I will put them out this week, but won't turn them on until next weekend.
