Poll question: Do you miss NHL hockey?
Yes, I'm going through withdrawal. But football keeps me occupied.

3. I am a hockey fan but only watch the NHL during playoffs.
The rest of the season I watch college or junior hockey, where there's no zillion dollar contracts and/or ego's involved.

It's a banner year :)

4. I miss hockey how it used to be
Before:

(a) the trap
(b) 90% of the players were Europeans who don't speak English and have zero personality.
(c) there were 35 expansion teams to dilute the talent pool
(d) the Rangers sucked.

And I'm an Islanders fan, but the Rangers sucking for the past 8 years just killed the sport.

9. Hockey of the 70's and 80's...
I couldn't agree with you more but if I remember correctly, with a few acceptions the Rangers pretty much sucked then too.

12. yes, however
when the Rangers won the cup, it marked the high-water mark for the sport. Had the Rangers stayed at the top of their game, and not been overtaken by the dull and boring NJ Devils, then maybe the sport would have became as popular as basketball.

8. Miss it, grew up playing it and watching Gordie Howe.
As a native Detroiter and old enough to have seen the original 6 teams play prior to expansion I do truly miss it.
I can understand peoples dislike of it, but if you have never seen a game in person you really have no concept of what tremendous skaters these guys are. It's awesome, eh?

13. Other
I do miss the game itself to a certain extent, but not the business. It's people making millions of dollars, fighting with people making millions and millions of dollars. Even the lowest paid athlete earns a quarter of a million.

But there's too much going on in the world to really care. I'd still watch it if they were playing, because I grew up as a fan.

You saw this lockout coming years in advance. Nobody watches hockey on TV(where the real money is made), yet the players expect to be some of the highest paid players in professional sports(even though few people in America give a damn if they ever come back at all). And some owners spend the money(some have it and spend it, some don't have it and still spend it), driving up the price on every player.

I'll watch the games when/if they get back to playing. But until then, I kind of miss it, but more of me doesn't.

16. I don't miss the NHL
Minor-league hockey is great, though. We have the Tulsa Oilers and the Oklahoma City Blazers here in the Sooner state. My wife and I get together with a bunch of friends and go every chance we get. Half of the fun is eating hot dogs and nachos until we can barely walk to the car.
