Poll question: Okay, dammit, what is the best U2 album?
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 05:55 PM by Redleg
Given all the talk about the new album and debate about the old, here is a poll to sort these things out for us nice and neat. Studio albums only.

On edit: Okay, I took out "Pop" to include "Unforgettable Fire." If you like "Pop" you can write it in or you can try to sue me.

1. You need to take out Zooropa or Pop and put in Unforgettable Fire
or else everyone will bitch at you.

Zooropa is my favorite U2 album.

the new one today, it's the best, well, just because it's new never heard stuff. If you like Josha Tree you'll like the new one.

Old fart at 40? I'm 57 and feeling young.

22. Pop was very good
Lots of original stuff. Discotheque sounded like they were all on acid and in a very sarcastic mood. Gone kicks major ass with extreme prejudice. Please is so good it makes my hair rise.

15. Hard choice between Joshua Tree and Unforgettable Fire
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 05:55 PM by Beaverhausen
They were peaking at that point I think.

I voted JT since you forgot UF!!!

Everything fit together very well. They stayed on theme from start to finish.

Just kidding. It will always be my favorite because I was young, dumb, and full of c_m when I first heard it on the radio.

26. Joshua Tree
Achtung Baby was very experimental and has its merits, but I prefer the more pop/rock side of U2. BTW, the new album is very good! There's not a U2 album I don't like.

32. I like the first four pretty well equally,
but I had to vote for War, same reasons as Fenris explains above. I't more than just a collection of songs, it's a cohesive, single work.

33. I don't like the fact that JT is so front-loaded
Joshua Tree starts off with the greatest song U2 ever came up with, followed by more great ones. Then it kind of hits a lull of songs that I just don't really like, such as "In God's Country", "Trip Through Your Wires", etc. Track 11, "Mothers of the Disappeared", is a phenomenal piece of music and I usually find my self listening from tracks 1-6, then skipping to 11. Bad habit, I know.

I have a love/hate relationship with Achtung Baby. I absolutely love "Even Better Than the Real Thing", "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses", "The Fly", and "Light my way". But I really don't like "One" and "Mysterious Ways" for some reason. And those are probably the two most popular and most beloved of U2's songs. Strange... All the other songs are good.

The other U2 album I own is ATYCLB. This I can easily listen from start to finish. The best song here is "Kite", which is the forgotten single I guess. I adore "Stuck..." because it really helped me through some tough times (it was a sports thing and the music video just hit me so hard). This is what got me into U2, as I am a very young U2 fan.

I just got Atomic Bomb and I'm loving it so far. The best track is Miracle Drug, as it is emotional and desperate without ever feeling contrived or over-wrought. I despised "Elevation" (especially since it had anything to do with Tomb Raider) but I absolutely love "Vertigo". Everybody's nagging and bitching about Bono's mangled Spanish count, but it's obviously on purpose to get people's attention. Like a multi-million dollar album with the best producers in the world will let something like that accidently slide... C'mon!
