3. I've been wondering that for years and the only thing I can
think is that there are skeletons in the closet that he doesn't want revealed.

He is the best, without a doubt, speaker in either party. Yes, even better than Obama and the Big Dog. IMHO.

11. I think that is a VERY good bet
otherwise, he would have EASILY won the nom in 92.

I've heard some wickedly outrageous stories about him from NY journalists.

I have to disagree about the him being better than Clinton at public speaking. As far as Obama, I'mg going to need to see him speak more than once to start assessing his skills.

4. when he was governor of NY
There were always rumors about "skeletons in the closet" preventing Cuomo from running nationally. Who knows if it were true?

7. That's got to be it, because I've been hoping he'd run for
decades. He really is the last of the great orators in our party. (Better than even Ted K.)

5. He's a little nuts
in 1992, he was sitting on a place bound to DC to announce his candidacy when he got cold feet and pulled out. I used to know some of his advisors, and their basic claim was that he was just a little nuts.

8. He is one of the most intelligent people you will ever meet
to say he is nuts is ridiculous.

9. I didn't say he wasn't intelligent
I'm a big fan of his--please don't put words in my mouth.

Being a little cuckoo is hardly mutually exclusive with high intelligence... I wasn't even being critical...simply explanatory.

24. I know him
And he's just not constitutionally suited to the incredible invasion of his privacy that a Presidential race would have involved.

It's that simple. He's a very private and protective man, and his wife wanted nothing to do with it.

10. Screw that, I would like to see Robert Reich run.
At least he knows a thing or two about the economy - something the MBA in Chief knows little about.

12. In 1992 - it was a mistake
He should have challanged the big dog for the nod. He would have won. However, it is past his prime now. I think we have talked about this before. I am more annoyed that Ginsberg got his seat on the SCOTUS.

19. I don't think so
Clinton was not polling well against Cuomo. In December 1991, two months after Clinton declared, Cuomo was crushing Jerry Brown with 15% and Clinton with 6%. Just two months later he dropped out of the race, still in the lead. He threw his support to Clinton, and was the first big gun to back Clinton over Brown.

He later refused William Christopher's offer to be Clinton's VP and then became the first American in 100 years to refuse a President's nomination for the Supreme Court.

I know many people take any dig at the big dog personally. I admire Bill Clinton more than you can imagine, but I was heavily involved in the Cuomo campaign. If the boss wanted the nod, it was his. If he asked Bill to back off and be his VP, Clinton would have gladly done so. In fact many planned for Cuomo to lose with Clinton as his running mate, to set up Clinton v. Quale in 1996. thank god that did not happen.
