9. It's a monitor. The probe goes down into your stomach to measure
acidity levels. Actually,it's right at the end of my esophagus.

2. The obvious question would have to be...
...is your tummy acidic, basic, or neutral?

Oh, and why do you have a pH probe in your tummy?

5. The pH in my tummy is currently 3.4.
It's a 24 hour test for acidity to determine when and how a surgery will be done. :hi:

12. Good luck on your surgery!
I would be mildly curious to learn the pH of my own tummy. I've been on Prevacid for so long, it probably isn't acidic at all anymore. Probably not curious enough to actually insert the probe, though... sounds unpleasant.

Get well soon.

22. Eh
if it weren't acidic at all, you'd be in big trouble. You just don't want it to be *too* acidic.

8. I'm glad you got your appointment.
I have been away from nursing for so long. How do you have that? Is it down your nose? I suppose it must be. Sounds kinda uncomfortable. I hope you are feeling OK.

10. Yes. The numbed my nose, did a mamometry test, which was blechy,
and then put the probe in. :puke: Thanks Muse. The worst part was getting it in...and now anticipating getting it out. :(

34. May I recommend xanax or valium,
if you are not actually being put under for the procedure? Some things are better done if you are slightly zonked. :) Hope all turns out well, Mrs G.

Take care,
Lars

and it needs to fixed? Or is that what you're having?

At least it's a fairly simple procedure...

29. It was fairly simple the first time around until they nicked my diaphragm.
I blew it out last year, and now need an open procedure to repair the esophagous and re do the fundoplication. I wish it were simple. :(

31. Sorry to hear about that...
They nicked the diaphragm? That's really impressive considering that it isn't exactly right next to the fundus of your stomach...

I've got my fingers crossed for you... Hang in there...

32. Yes, I've had a gastric emptying test as well. It's a combination of
gastroparesis with this excessive acid thing going on. I blew out the original surgery. Now it's a question of how to fix it. :hi:

If the pH of your stomach acid is 3.5, what is the concentration of hydroxide ions?

25. pOH = 14 - pH
Which is 10.5

so 10^-10.5 = 3.16 * 10-11 =

28. It's only 24 hours, Miz. G.
Sorry ya hafta suffer it, but it could be much worse. Besides, it'll help 'em figure out how best to handle the prollum, and you shouldn't hafta have one again for a long time. This is the best encouragment you can get from a guy who's sat through a few unsedated upper GI endoscopies. If you're not gagging and wantin' to pick yer nose worse than ever have before, yer doin' OK. ;-)
