I ask this because MY FRIEND is downloading it right now and needs to know what to expect. I don't know how I could possibly go wrong since the play was terrific, and everybody loves Tim Roth and Richard Dreyfuss.

1. Well, your FRIEND is a smart guy.
I haven't seen that version, but a Stoppard play with quality actors sounds like a winner. Your FRIEND seems to be in luck!

13. Well, we all thought so.
Your contempt for FRIEND comes through clearly. What a loser!

Your friend should expect not to "get" this movie.

3. Apparently the movie's out of print. Why is this.
Why did it (presumably) bomb at the box office? bad marketing strategy? no frontal nudity? too much DEATH? Also, is the screenplay any different from Stoppard's script?

4. I never heard about this version.
But I was drunk in 1990, so don't go by me.

16. What didn't you like about it?
Bad acting? Boring plot? Excessive CG?

8. The scene where Roth and Oldman play "Questions"
is one of my favorite scenes in cinema history.

10. It's tremendous, if you're in the right mood
it helps if you've recently seen or read "Hamlet" or have a strong familiarity with it.

and for the tranquility of this thread, i am happy Woody Allen had absolutely nothing to do with it. But you have to concentrate. It is involved.

14. Well, I saw it when it came out and thought it really stunk...
...I think Richard and Tim are wonderful actors, but I don't know, I guess I didn't get it. I think there's a cult that worships these two minor Shakesperian characters, and they probably liked it.

It's a wonderful rendition of the play. Anyone who enjoys Hamlet will surely enjoy the film. Gary Oldman and Tim Roth are great.
