Tab! (eewww!!) Who remembers Fizzies?
They were little tablets that one put into a glass of water which then began bubbling furiously. When that was done, the water was flavored. I am thinking that the end result probably was not the best tasting dring, ever, but Fizzies were fun for the brave of heart to place on their tongue.

1. I loved Fizzies!
Had them the whole time I was growing up -- then one day they just weren't there.

Always half-wondered if they went away because I grew up.

The root-beer were by far the best! They were too good to be wasted in water. They went straight on the tongue--like a fine vodka.

Pre-cursors to Pop Rocks I believe.

PS-I think there is a candy site on line that you can still get them on. I don't remember the name of it but it sells all kinds of "vintage" candy.

9. I was actually in the pop rocks generation but
awhile back on the food network they did a thing on them and you can still get them from some retro candy places on the web.

11. Ha ha! I LOVE the internet!

Check this out: http://www.oldtimecandy.com/fizzies.htm

From the short page:

"Wouldn't it be grand if we could drop a tablet in a glass of water and have an instant soda pop?" After long hard work, they finally figured out how to combine the right combinations of fruit flavoring, sweetener, citric acid and sodium bicarbonate (a substance that is much like baking soda) into a magical tablet that when dropped into water, turned water into an instant sparkling, effervescent fruit drink!"

I remember a cola flavor, as well. Sweet Lord! Turns out they contained Cyclamate. Oooh, I don't feel so well...

Oy, I must be getting old, lol!
