Hold it! Wait! Sharks can jump OUT of the water?
:scared:Oh criminy this adds a whole new wrinkle to my Jaws induced* fear. :scared:

A great white shark breaches the water in False Bay, Cape Town, South Africa, in this undated file photo. A shark of the same species attacked and presumably killed an elderly woman, Tyna Webb, as she swam Monday Nov. 15, 2004 off Sunny Cove in Fish Hoek as she had for 17 years. About 15 people witnessed the attack and she was presumed dead, officials said. (AP Photo/Chris Fallows, Die Burger, File)

*-Not to include the sequels were the shark leaps out of the water to bite a power line or stalks the Brody family :eyes:

2. They sometimes not only jump out of water, but also pose as
messengers. Never answer the door to someone who says they are delivering a "Candygram".

7. Sharks also ...
roll their eyes back when they actually go to bite something, which is why some people believe they attack surfers. From a distance, they look like seals and the shark isn't looking when it gets close enough to notice that it's a piece of wood with something stringy and not tasty attached. That's also why, I've heard, people survive shark attacks -- we just don't taste good to them. They're like -- BITE -- Yuck! What the heck was THAT??

17. Yes, yes you could!
I used to call it The Shark and Fighter Plane Channel, but since they created Discovery Wings (all the fighter planes and none of the sharks) and discover science (all the sharks and none of the fighter planes) I guess it's okay. I can't stand what Discovery Channel has become. Worse though is The Learning Channel, it's ALL decorating shows, all day, every day... How many times do I need to learn to hang a $5 adhesive border to a wall?

35. You need Discovery HD.
A full range of shows (yes, sharks too) in high definition. It kinda looks like you're at the aquarium looking through the glass windows, but with a sharper picture. Amazing.

(I once watched prairie dogs for an hour just because the picture was so great)

23. False Bay...
I used to stay at St James, a few kilometres north of Fishoek on False Bay. There was a little island that covered maybe a quarter acre about 2 km out in False Bay that I could watch the seals on from my place. Once or twice I watched Great Whites launch themselves onto the shores of that island and snag a seal before wriggling back into the water. South African bathing beaches tend to have shark nets. Even with nets I would never put a toe in False Bay. It crawls with big sharks.

37. Want some irony? We will see more and more shark interaction
w/ humans now because many places have cleaned up their bays. Less pollution means more food for the sharkies, so they are drawn in closer to the coastlines.

Except for here in the USA.

Go figure. Dubya has been protecting us from sharks all along!

41. That one looks photoshopped, but yes, they can jump.
There's one place off the coast of Australia where they are frequently seen jumping out of the water as they attack surface birds, sealions, etc.

Did you know that one of the largest Great White breeding grounds in the world is just off Long Island Sound?

Not much is known about Great Whites.

Hey, why don't we try to get Dubya to take a long walk on a short pier...
