Maybe it's just me... Anyone see the new FRIDAY'S commercial?
The one with the man out with his guy friends see his wife and goes over to her and says "What are you doing here?"

Wife: Paraphrase can't remember it exactly-- "Jan called and I decided to come out to eat.

Husband: "Where are the kids?"

Wife: "They are with my mother".

Now this is what gets me. My stomach turns when I hear him: Guy looks down and is like "Okay" but the tone sounded disapproving to me. Like how dare she not be a mother and take care of the kids.

What are your thoughts

3. No, you misunderstood, what they meant was if you have children
and are a woman, you can't go out, but the father can. (Dripping sarcasm)

4. Women take care of kids grunt grunt.
I've seen that commercial, and I'm always had the same reaction.

But then, isn't her mom there with the kids? I don't remember.

It's a stupid commercial all the way around.

5. I don;t even get that commercial
I've seen it at least 10 times and don't understand the freaking point of the commercial.

Guys out with buddies, wife decides to have a drink with friends, drops Kids off with Grandma, grandma decided to take the kids to get something to eay..

and they all end up at Fridays!

Its just stupid and pointless with no meaning.

Either that or I am simply unable to read between the lines

13. but why wouoldn't he be HAPPY to see her instead of annoyed/confused
that would seem more in line with the whole "happy family gathering place idea".

8. But the strangest thing is...
...that granma and the kids are ALSO in the restaurant.

To be honest, when I FIRST saw that ad, I thought that the wife was out on a date (a DATE-date, not a get-together) with her girlfriend, and that is why the husband was irritated. My "uh-oh, the GOP won't like THIS!" alarm went off!

The second thought I had was, WTF is WRONG with these idiots? Don't they TALK about stuff?? Don't they KNOW, in their 'fictional family' way, that they all LIKE the restaurant? How hard is it to pick up one of the thousands of cell phones everyone has and call to make dinner plans?

Also, why is it OK for the husband to be out to dinner, but his nose is out of joint because the wife is also out to dinner?

In the end, it really comes across as an ad for DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES...the restaurant is totally secondary. I'm guessing it won't get a good response over the long haul...they'd be better off featuring Dancing Poppers or something...

9. It's a very strange commercial.
Not only does the guy look disapproving, but the wife's friend says hello to the husband with a tone that suggests she knows some dark secret about him.

10. There definitely is some subtle sexism in the commerical,
and I found it insulting that he even asks her "where are the kids" as if she's a terrible mother and wife who doesn't have sense enough to leave their children in competent care while she goes out. But yeah, who is this commercial funny to? Only those who believe in that traditional division of labor Mom at home with kids, Dad a completely free agent who can come and go as he pleases, no questions asked.

11. I'm glad you said it, I think the same thing every time I see it!!
and not only just about the kids, but when he first sees her, he seems put-off, like she's not suppsed to have fun, too. it's weird.
