WHY Has there not been a sequel to "THE THING"?
(Apologies to Rabrrrr)

You still have the Saucer.
No one really knows what happened.

And the movie still has a following.

(Ext.)
Arctic scenery rolls across the screen. Stark and empty, blindingly white except for a black dot that gets larger as the camera approaces.

Two bodies. Frozen in a sitting position facing each other in a deadly stare.

(Roll title)

3. and them some doofus from the military or something picks up the bodies
and we see them shipped back to the mainland US.

I've long thought about that scenario...

7. My imagined scenario is that they enter the saucer....
It was huge from the Carpenter scenario.

They heat up Kurt and because he's infected...

They blow the copters again and then they have to stop Kurt from using the saucer (that they have stupidly put back into working order) to take over the world.

Prime excuse for FX and tons of action, blood and guts.

9. There was a blurb in the spring in one of the trade papers...
...about a "Thing" sequel, WITH Carpenter at the helm(!).

But it's bee shelved for the time-being, because the first half-hour was almost exactly just like the opening of "AVP", just by coincidence.

I wish I could remember the details or the source (I think it was "Variety"), but it was at the height of my divorce melt-down, and I wasn't retaining much information at that point.

13. you couldn't help but to think of The Thing when considering the
AVP premise.

As to your memory during the "D" meltdown, you're doing better than me. I could barely remember my name during the height of the trama.

11. 1) It's best leaving you to wonder what happens after
2) They'd fuck it up
3) Of course, means there'd already be a sequel
4) I give up

14. 99% of the time, you are spot on in reference to sequels.
But we can hope and I suspect that the imagined sequels will be much better than what Hollywood would produce.

But what the hey. I'd go see it just to see what they did with it.

12. I love that movie....
The Carpenter remake, of course. Awesome movie.

I'd love to see Carpenter do a sequel, but only if it retains the goodness of the The Thing-- Carpenter can be so uneven. I'd also love to see a sequel to Prince of Darkness, which I've always assumed was coming, but I guess I was wrong.

15. Latest word is that the guy who has done all the King miniseries
will be doing a 4 hour sequel for Sci-Fi but I'm not sure that it ever got greenlit.

16. That could really suck. Sci Fi Channel has produced some real stinkers..
Dune and Battlestar were good, but ususally they go for such a small budget that they turn a classic like Riverworld into an untouchable product for years.

I'm surprised they haven't tried Stranger in a Strange Land.
