It is snowing here in Boston
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 02:08 PM by WilliamPitt
Baseball season is over, the election is passed, the leaves are off the trees, and it is snowing here in the fading light.

I love this time of year. I'm a freak, I know, but this is why I live here. This is the test. From now until April, I get to earn the right to enjoy warm weather, green grass and blooming trees.

1. HI WIll!
I have missed seeing you around here. I hope you have recovered and are feeling well. Enjoy the snow. Somehow your way with words makes even winter seem better.

24. New England is the place where weather goes to die
The jet stream goes right over Boston Harbor. If we've got it, it means it was somewhere west of us a few days ago. So, no, this one isn't headed your way.

45. And then it swooshes up here to Vermont, where....
...the "Eye in the Sky Guys" (our trusty weathermen) get to wax poetic over every nuance of the storm or weather pattern.

I love those guys. But, I admit... weather does MATTER here in the East. When I lived in CA, who cared?

Here, the weather is KING! Our weather guys are celebs!

So, I brace for the snow!

4. Basstids!
I love the snow. I love Summer, too, but I love the snow.

In Philly, we get cold rain -- like we're getting today. It is one ugly-ass day. Recently, Philly has turned into a two-season town: Drought and Flood.

I bet you get to see aurorae up there, too.

We finally had a decent snowfall on Valentine's Day this year after a long snow-free cycle. All we ever got was ice - some of it really dangerous ice.

20. Same here. I miss the snow and the cold.
I grew up in Maine, but I'm living in Florida right now. It seems weird to have not seen any snow for almost three years. I can't wait to move back to that part of the country.

This is the time of year when the native Floridians start wearing their sweatshirts, even though the temperature is still in the 80's during the day (the summer is typically 90F+). It's kind of silly. They seem to be incredibly sensitive to very small temperature changes.

12. Dude, I miss snow. I'm in Oregon
we finally got a good snow last year..but its not usual in my part of Oregon around portland. If it's cold enough to snow here...it's too clear. If it's cloudy enough to snow..its too warm.

We have to have perfect confluence of weather events to bring snow.

But I sure do love it when the air gets crisp and the flurries fly.

Incidentally, one of my best autumn experiences was going to NYC for thanksgiving and Macys parade RIGHT AFTER 9/11.

Flying right after 9/11 was quite an adrenaline rush.

My feeling about Philadelphia is that you have to sort of be a badass to make it through the winters here. Of course, we've got nothing on you up in Boston...and probably Maine DUers are going to come on this thread and laugh at you...

26. Red Sox soooo rock
I'm in Colorado (it's trying to start snowing here too) and I'm a Red Sox fan....I think that win and the way it was won helped cushion the blow for me from the election. But now that the election is over I'm starting to think.. you know all of my favorite friends have been from Boston but for some reason they move here and never stay long. Maybe I should think about moving. Or at least making a trip next summer to see at least one game from Fenway. That would be awesome.

Speaking as someone who has only really seen snow a handful of times in her life, I miss it. The thing I hate about Texas in November is the weather can't make up it's damn mind. Get cold already. :)

35. Snow
Miss the snow... grew up in northern Michigan and now live in Phoenix. A few years ago in December when talking to my sister in Maryland I looked out my kitchen window --- OMG, it was snowing! I was so excited that I opened my door and stood outside while talking to me sister. That was such a beautiful day. We do receive a few snow showers occassionally, doesn't last long though. It is only a few hours drive up to Flagstaff where we can enjoy the snow at Snowbowl. We also have another skiing area called Sunrise.

There was another ski area in southern Az called Mt. Lemon but they have been hit by the summer fires... not sure if that area is available anymore

We're supposed to get 3-5 inches here in the Merrimack Valley, I hope this isn't a sign of things to come - seems like the past couple of years, the snow hits on the weekend. What's up with that? I work at a college, so when school's cancelled, I get the day off too!
