WWII Veteran Finds Himself in Painting
Guardian

Friday November 12, 2004 2:16 PM

By MELISSA MANSFIELD

Associated Press Writer

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Jean Muth was skimming the Sunday newspaper when she spotted a listing for a World War II museum exhibit and stopped to scrutinize a painting of sailors playing poker aboard the ``Lucky Lizzy.''

To her surprise, a closer examination revealed her husband, Frank, sitting slightly above the other sailors.

Frank Muth took a look for himself, then asked his wife, ``Are we going to go?''

With his USS Elizabeth C. Stanton blue leather memory book tucked under his arm, Frank and his wife of 57 years went Thursday to the Albany Institute of History and Art in search of a closer look of ``On the Fantail.''

1. Neat story...
...wish there was an image of the painting.
