2. Bill Cowher (sp?) reminds me of a guy I used to work for.
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 12:01 PM by Bertha Venation
I try not to detest people I've never met, but I can't to watch Steelers' games because that man looks like the angriest, most hateful individual I've ever known. I don't know if the coach IS that way, but GAWD, my BP goes up just to see him react to, say, a dropped pass or one of his players being called for a penalty. UGH.

Go Browns!

4. He's not. He's just very intense and passionate when coaching.
He actually strikes me as a rather warm guy in some interviews. And how dare you say "go Browns!" :grr:

12. he's nice the players LOVE HIM
I've never seen one player say a bad word about him ever. YOu have to be tough to be in football. He's not mean to the players, if he was they would complain about him.

And if you see interviews with him you see what an intelligent, rational guy he really is. How tough can he be...he was two or three daughters. He's the only man in his family!

17. To add to what you said,
I've never heard a player or former player say a bad word about him. He's extremely respected by the players and the Steeler brass. He's spent thirteen years in Pittsburgh, which in this day and age of shuffling coaches, is an eternity. He had some big shoes to fill when Chuck Noll retired, and I believe he's actually more well-liked than Noll ever was.

By the way, welcome to DU! :toast:

13. Hey Bertha!
Cowher does seem rather petulant, doesn't he. But I would still rather see the Steelers win. ( but then I live in Pittsburgh)

6. I'm calling a Steelers collapse and meltdown right now.
Same thing happened to the bolts Brees' starting season. 6-1 start, Knocking off the undefeated champs, and everyone getting awfully comfortable and arrogant. Teams studied the film, and figured out where to shut him down, and because he was a rookie QB, he didn't know how to adjust. Look for the same thing with the Steelers QB.

14. but the steelers have a good defense
Sure a huge part of the success is Big Ben. But the defense is also part of it. The defense shut down the Patsies and Igles.

7. know what sucks?
Being *married* to a Browns fan. She has the offical Browns fan strategy down perfectly.

--That's the "Project low expectations, but get all cocky when they actually win" method of being a football fan.

8. I love hearing the radio guys here cry after a Browns loss.
Monday, after they lost to the Ravens, was hilarious.

9. me too, they get so pathetic
After the Steelers had their massive comeback and beat the Browns in the 2002 playoffs, I had to drive three hours from southern Ohio to my wife's parents' place in northern Ohio. I listened to WTAM 1100 the whole way.

It was like the world had ended.

10. Yep...the one guy on WTAM bitched because
They decided to carry the Steelers/Patriots game during the Browns' bye week. He claimed the Pittsburgh affiliate would never have broadcast a Browns game during a bye week. Well, he's right. That's because there are no Browns fans in Pittsburgh!

11. is Cowher a Bush guy?
I've always loved Bill Cowher. But in the runup to the election I tried to find out if he supported Bush or not. I would obviously now hate the guy if he supported Bush. I did several google searches and asked a few of my old Pittsburgh friends but nothing came up.

I've been a Steelers fan my whole life and this season is the only thing that has cheered me up since we lost the election. That Eagles game was the perfect medicine I needed. In fact, I wore my anti Bush shirt to the sports bar to watch the game. But I live in NYC, so there weren't any Bushies in the house.

15. I searched too, on newsmeat. No dice.
Bettis, OTOH, is a Bushie, but I give him a pass because he seems like a genuinely nice guy and does a lot of charity work.

16. screw bettis then
ouch. that hurts that Bettis is a Bushie. But you're right. Bettis seems like such a nice, normal guy. I've always liked his friendly, personable qualities and intelligence. I guess I don't like him anymore.

I'm thinking Cowher is smart enough to not tell anyone who he supported for president.

I know the Vikings coach introduced Bush at a Bush rally just before the election.

18. Well, Butch Davis is a bushie.
And very open about it. Remember when Condi Rice showed up at Browns practice? I knew there was a reason why I hated that team...
