So I've been a Democrat for 10 months now, and it's my 900th post...
If you would have told me a year and a half ago that I would be a Democrat, and that I would be closing in on 1,000 posts on democraticunderground.com, I would have laughed out loud.

It's been quite a journey, and it's far from over. After this most recent election, it's obvious that there is more to fight for than ever before, and I am glad I am on this side of the fence fighting it. The grass is greener, the sky is bluer, and the cause is just.

Every vote legitimately tallied and counted.

Equal rights for all as opposed to using the Constitution to discriminate.

Pursuing a true peace, not war veiled as peace.

The right of free speech, not something that limits your right to speak out but is labeled the "Patriot" Act.

Guaranteeing the benefits of those who wore the uniform.

The right to worship (or not worship) as you please. I was raised a guilt-ridden Lutheran, thank you, and I would prefer to stay that way.

A fair wage for all who work.

And the list goes on. I know many of you are depressed and saddened about the results of Tuesday's election, and although we may have lost this battle, the war is far from over.

Keep fighting, keep agitating, and start at the local level to affect change. As for me, I'm going to run for the school board or city council. I'll probably get my ass handed to me, but I can't very well talk all this smack and then not do anything, can I?

Never, ever, give up!!

11. Glad to have you
I just wish there were more like you!

My Dad also became a Democrat thanks to the Bush Administration and the current state of the GOP. It seems that there is a sizable chunk of those who voted for Bush last week who are also wavering but are so far either too timid or too unsure to make the same leap. The next four years will no doubt give many of them reason to re-consider where they stand...

15. It seems like there are a lot more ex-Republicans....
that voted for Kerry than there were who voted for Gore in 2000.

EVERY exit poll favored Kerry.

Yet, Bush won by a sizable margin. I just don't get it.

17. It was stolen, pure and simple.
I've been lurking for a while, but just started posting. Every day I am thankful for AAR, DU and the great Democrats and recovering Republicans I've found in Houston.
