I did just because I figure I live in Canada, and so I can't lose my job over it. And if I did Labour relations would tear apart the piece of shit that fired me.

Plus, I though it was a bit important to show some solidarity with others being ballsy enough to out themselves.

The naked pictures are there too..

No, not really

6. Yes.
I've been reluctant to mention, say, my family by name, because my mother is a rather high-up in a particular news program, and being that she is as liberal as I am, (as has been so since long before I was born), figured that might lead some lurkers to some conclusions. But you know what, they think the media is liberal anyway, even though it is not, so I don't care anymore.
(If someone is that curious, go check my surname in the thread and watch the credits of a certain national, nightly news program. Maybe 3rd from the top.)

51. Search the messages in DU
Yes, he is gay and we both go to Interior Design College. I have turned people on to this website including my Professors. We both have one more semester together at the same College.

If I say my name I will be giving his identity away and I don't want to do that. Look up the message thread and you will find out why I wouldn't want to tell people who either one of us are right now.

He is not part of DU but some of my classmates and Professors are. I can hurt myself but I will not hurt my ex boyfriend by telling people who I am. He has his whole life ahead of him and I will not ruin his career. Do you know how much I wanted to add my name to the messages in GD but I couldn't because of hurting him?

Look us the message thread about him coming out to his family and then look up the message thread about the argument that I had with a Professor over Bush vs Kerry. My Professor asked for the name of this website and I gave it to him. I also gave the name to my other Professor in my Western Civilization class and several other faculty members in financial aid, the book store, the library, student affairs, and the list goes on.

I believe that all of us talk politics when we are away from this board. They know who I am on campus and they know that I promote democrats and that I am a big Kerry and Edwards supporter.

It took him 25 years to come out to his family. I am not going to out him because I believe that is for him to do on his own. I haven't told any of my close friends at school because it is none of my business and it's not my place to tell people.

I don't think that anyone cares if you are gay or heterosexual at my College. I didn't know that he was gay so I don't think that anyone else knows it either and I really don't care if they do because he is still the same person.

You misunderstood and somewhat have twisted what I have posted. I really don't know why his life has to be brought out in front of our classmates. He's gay I am over it and I don't think that anyone else needs to know about his life.

My first visit to Ireland was November of 1971. It was great without the tourists, even if a bit chilly and damp.

The Killarney trip was either late May or early June, lots of tourists then.

Where is Sheep's Head?

I keep this link saved to my favorites.

69. Cool.
Must have been a completely different place in 1971.

The Ring of Kerry is on the Iveragh peninsula, and the peninsula south of that is the Beara peninsula. Sheep's head is the small peninsula south of Beara across the Bantry Bay. It's gorgeous, and completely undeveloped for tourism, basically. There's only one village on Sheep's Head...and many farms. Fantastic solitude, if you like that sort of thing.

I have successfully stayed out of the internets and phone books. My identity was stolen earlier this year. Freeps copied and pasted an ATA thread I posted. I found out THEIR names, and one of the major ones lives in the area. I prefer not to go global with my name.

...I'm not afraid of outing myself as one of those nasty liberal homos to the government (they already know who we all are anyway), but because of certain freeper factions (and NOT from FR, either!) out there who are positively obsessed with DUers they hate (or love, in some sick, erotomanic kind of way) to the point of cyber-stalking. Why make it any easier for them?

That, and because DU is indexed by Google. And if I ever have a chance at another job in this dying society, I don't think I'd want any off-handed "Corporation XYZ is a bunch of big meany-butts!" remark to be associated with my real name on a casual Google-check.

I'm number #57 on the list. And if anyone cares to view my profile, my city and state is listed. Plus my picture is in the gallery. To hell with it.

I'd spent my adult life being careful and safe concerning the airing of my political views, but within the last year, I've come to realize that if I don't stand up for what I believe, then what I truly believe in is fear.

on edit: and I'm NOT changing my user name.

40. Why I chose not to...
There are conservative sites bookmarking and saving this information just because they dislike us as DUers. I am first and foremost, a mother. Secondly, I will be a single woman soon. Thirdly, I never say the name of the town I live in, but I do say Central CT. I'm listed in the phone book and so is my address. I wouldn't be that hard to find. I don't need some nutjob bothering me or my family.

If I sign a petition, I give my full name. If I write a LTTE, I write my full name. If I e-mail a comment to a show or journalist, I give my full-name. This, though is different for me, and I don't want to be on same list or database for whackjob freepers. If that makes me a wuss, I'm a wuss. I'm also a wuss responsible to little people who need their mommy safe. If that weren't the case, I might feel differently.

53. I am more protective of my internet names than my real names.
I would never post my slashdot names, my old usenet names, my delphi names, etc., on a big public forum like DU.

My hobbies are evolutionary biology, computers, religion, and politics, all of which I've always liked hot and spicy. Sometimes that gets me in trouble.

There are naked pictures and stuff I wrote more than twenty years ago on the internet. But where to find these, I will never tell...

It's actually pretty easy to talk me out of my physical name and address.

57. no
because my husband is in the military and I've already seen what FR claims they do or will do when they find out some soldier is against this war or "un-american". My husband and I have different last names, but still too paranoid.

61. I have children
My first and foremost obligation in life is to keep them safe. I cannot take any chances whatsoever with their safety. I believe that it would be a sin to risk them in any way - a REAL sin, not like what freeps would call sin (thinking about sex and whatnot).

64. No, because
I've been using my real first name here for over three years. I also got fired from a job already because of being on DU, back in '02. So I figure I'm already well out there, I don't need to be 'brave' and join in that thread. But I admire those who did; trust me, there is a real danger for some in doing that. I'm thinking of going somewhat more anonymous at DU here shortly with a new name anyway.

67. I did not.
I´m German and I see no way for me to change anything. I´ve no influence in any American issue, I do not know any American, my only contact to the US is here in DU.

But

oh

how I`m glad to know you folks here!

You make the difference, and I really really hope, you will never give up to fight against those bushistas!

68. I thought about it
I thought about it but decided that since I only have internet access from work, I didn't want to draw attention to the fact that (a) I visit message boards (which they can track but I hope they don't) and that (b) I post occasionally. Also, I didn't want to attract any (more) spam into my inbox.

One day, in a kinder world ...
