1. Who IS this Sam Haine guy, anyway?
And why do pagans like him so much?

(Kidding, kidding. Although I did have to be corrected by some pagan friends once.)

9. Glad you've retained a sense of humor.
That's something I like about the pagans I know. They retain a strong resiliance in the face of what members of other religions might consider an affront.

4. You are entirely welcome
I'm rather areligious myself but I'm highly pagan-friendly. Most of my close friends are pagans and I love the old holidays.

6. Blessed Samhain to you as well Velma!
As a non-demonational Pagan, it's good to see more of us around here.

7. Question: Do you Pagan DUers find Halloween decorations offensive?
I am an agnostic but I see a lot of interesting points in what I have read about the Wiccan philosophy.

But to get to the point... I love Halloween and all the ghoulish decorations etc.

As a kid I loved the whole fun tradition of the evening and as an adult I always go out of my way to try to create the same thing for the kids in my life.

I guess I am wondering as I sit here taking a break from putting away my ten tons of decorations if what I am doing every year is offensive to Pagans? (I don't mean it to be!)

10. Well, I spent yesterday with my pagan best friend...
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 11:34 AM by VelmaD
and her hubby and kid who are also pagans. We spent the afternoon putting up Halloween decorations...we really got into it. We put up spider webs and orange and purple lights and carved jack-o-lanterns and decorated my little 3 foot tall light up alien as a pimp (we dress him up every year). They all love celebrating Halloween with lights and costumes and all the trimmings. It's something apart from celebrating Samhain to them.

Most of the pagans I know feel the same way, they get into the fun of it all. However, not all pagans agree on this and opinions can vary greatly (just like they can among christians about how to celebrate xmas).

12. Good! Thanks!
BTW for anyone who is interested in a really creepy look for Halloween decorations (that is about as cheap as it gets)

Take large branches (the taller and more twisted and contorted the better) and place as many of them as you can fit in large pots of dirt.

Put them on a porch, at an entry way, or wherever and then spread a small amount of spider webs on the branches.

Add a strobe light aimed on them at night and you have an instant haunted house look!

I don't know what prompted me to share that LOL but I go nuts with the above every year and at night it really does look creepy!

8. Thank you, Velma
and Samhain/New year blessings to you and all the other folks here as well!

Don't forget to point your broom's bristles toward the White House during the next 36 hours. For details, see "Pointing the broom" thread in Meeting Room.
