9. You might wanna flame me for this...

...but I think Dan Rather deserves a little bit of respect.

Why, you ask? Because last fall, Rather appeared on the BBC's "News Night" and very honestly told his interviewer that as much as he wanted to ask tough questions of the folks in Washington, he didn't dare to do so lest he risk being labeled "unpatriotic."

Granted, Rather is still too spineless to actually ask those tough questions, but at least he was upfront (albeit on British TV) about his lack of a backbone. That makes Rather slightly better than his colleagues in the mainstream media.

OK, y'all, flame away!

2. Eleanor Clift gets my vote..
Awhile back she had an article pointing out how Bush tax policy is directly related to how his regime seeks to dismember Social Security and Medicare. To me this is the great disturbing truth that needs to be shouted from the mountaintops. I appreciated her doing that.

8. I just caught that show recently
McLaughlin was really talking against the war. Well, he was a priest before. But any changes won't make his personality more bearable - I do make fun of his "ITEM!" though.

I voted for Cronkite. I can't see him ever selling out - he's still of the days when the news wasn't second to entertainment and ratings so much.

6. If I could vote for more than one
I chose Bill Moyers. He's done so much superior work for so many years on a multitude of subjects.

I'd also have to vote for Walter Cronkite. He's not a blabbermouth and only speaks out when he thinks he has something of substance to contribute to the public discourse.

I'd forgotten about Eleanor Clift, but yeah, I'd count her too.

10. Do you mean Helen Thomas?

I noticed her name missing from the list, but I probably still would have voted for Moyers. He has been doing an excellent job for the last year and a half... ever since he put NOW on the air.

I also noticed that Jon Stewart's name is missing.

I definitely think that Jon and Helen could be inserted in place of, say, Gwin Iffel and Ed Bradley.

12. A conservative whom I respect
is Georgie Anne Geyer. Her columns were fact-filled, logical and contained a controlled rage as the "War Party", as she calls them, led us down this horrible path.

Her Thanksgiving column was poetic in its dark bitterness as she looked down that path.
