Bong Smoking Toddler Lands Mom In Trouble
BILLINGS, Montana (AP) A Montana woman is accused of letting her 18-month-old daughter smoke marijuana. Jessica Durham pleaded innocent in US District Court in Billings.

After a one-day trial Wednesday, the judge said he would consider written arguments and rule later. The judge said he hasn't seen a case like this.

According to court documents, a friend of the defendant took photos of the toddler smoking a bong pipe.

The friend testified that Durham told her she let her daughter smoke marijuana because the girl wasn't eating or sleeping enough.

2. You know what?
And please don't yell at me, but I don't think giving a tiny bit of pot to a kid who can't sleep is all that bad of an idea. Of course it should be given orally instead of smoked.

THC is NOT dangerous.

3. In one sense...

.. you're right.

It's not physically dangerous in any way.

However the dosage of marijuana is sketchy. And eating it, if you have ever had brownies, you'll know that it can get away from you a little if you're not careful. It creeps up.

Have you ever been a little "too" high.. and bug out a little, maybe get a little nervous.

I worry about that happening to the little one.

Not a good idea. The mind of the child is WAY too young to handle the altered perception. The kid's wig would be twisted, and it might be really upsetting.

Heyo

on edit: On the other hand, the kid might totally dig it. :dunce: But still a very bad idea.

7. I'm just talking about a tiny bit.
Whenever (my friend) can't sleep, (my friend) takes one small puff and he's out like a light. :) A good sleeping dose doesn't alter perception at all, it's just relaxing.

Seriously, have there been any real studies that show pot actually affects young brains adversely? My guess is that it's a myth. Pot doesn't kill brain cells (quite the opposite based on recent Alzheimer's disease studies) and it doesn't alter DNA or damage brain cells in any way. Just playing devil's advocate here, and no I don't have kids.

11. But it is indeed a psychadelic....

... in some aspects.

I know it's not dangerous, doesn't kill brain cells, etc.

I am not worried about any physiological danger.

But I think, even with a small amount, the experience may be very upsetting. The kid is too young to understand an altered state of consciousness in any form. More importantly.. the kid isn't making a choice, obviously... just, next thing they know.. "what the hell is goin' on here?"

It's the lesser degree of dosing someone with acid without their knowledge.

THC does not really relax you. Some people feel more relaxed when they smoke, I used to, because they enjoy the feeling and it helps them unwind. But it does raise heart rate and blood pressure, alter depth perception, and at a time when the kid is just learning the world and how it works, how to manipulate objects, etc.

Bad idea. Bad idea.

4. unless there's an allergy.
Had anyone given me pot as a child, I would have died; I'm severely allergic to hemps. Of course, allergies being one of those rather universal problems...

I'd rather a parent start with chamomile tea with honey, personally.

6. How about some Dimatap elixor instead?

Or some Benadryl...

"Seems like you have a cold starting there--let's take some medicine for it."

Before anyone asks, NO I have never done that with my kid. I do, however, know a woman who gives her kids a dose of antihistimines before she geets on an airplane with them.

She claims it makes flying ever so much better for everyone.

I don't see how that's any different.

needs better friends! :D

I don't know if giving a toddler pot is a good or bad idea. Probably not the brightest idea, but it doesn't seem all that different from parents who use whiskey to ease teething pains, or other similar "home remedies."
