2. Cats have eight fingers and eight toes (At least MY cat does)...
...so of a cat has 16 claws, did you clip a few cats, and leave some of those claws alone???

12. Don't forget the dew-claw ,, the reallly sharp one on the inner "wrist"

That's the one that always hooks me :(

Trimming the Toenails of a Cat: Pet Health Topics from the ...
... Cats have a nail on the inner side of each foot called the dew claw. Remember to trim these as they are not worn down when the cat scratches and can grow in a circle, growing into the foot.

3. Why do you clip their claws
I never clip my cat's claws. The only time I did is when we had our 6 toed tailess calico minx cat. The reason I clipped her claws is because she used to sharpen them real sharp to sink them in my brothers head. I loved that cat.

6. They scrap and wrestle with each other, and little Sara came up with
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 01:21 AM by SoCalDem
a weepy eye, and $67.00 later , the vet thinks she might have caught a claw in the corner of her eye.. :(.. She's better now, but what a chore it is to put salve in her eye 3 times a day, and give her liquid antibiotics three times a day :(

They are not mean kitties, just love to pounce on each other and they get a bit carried away sometimes :(..

7. You would not have been able to do this to the brave Beocat
Grendel's Dog, from BEOCAT

by the Old English Epic's Unknown Author's Cat

Brave Beocat,
brood-kit of Ecgthmeow,
Hearth-pet of Hrothgar
in whose high halls
He mauled without mercy
many fat mice,
Night did not find napping
nor snack-feasting.
The wary war-cat,
whiskered paw-wielder,
Bearer of the burnished neck-belt,
gold-braided collar band,
Feller of fleas
fatal, too, to ticks,
The work of wonder-smiths,
woven with witches' charms,
Sat on the throne-seat
his ears like sword points
Upraised, sharp-tipped,
listening for peril-sounds,
When he heard from the moor-hill
howls of the hell-hound,
Gruesome hunger-grunts
of Grendel's Great Dane,
Deadly doom-mutt,
dread demon dog.

Then boasted Beocat,
noble battle kitten,
Bane of barrow-bunnies,
bold seeker of nest-booty:
"If hand of man unhasped
the heavy hall-door
And freed me to frolic forth
to fight the fang-bearing fiend,
I would lay the whelpling low
with lethal claw-blows;
Fur would fly
and the foe would taste death-food.

But resounding snooze-noise,
stern slumber-thunder,
Nose-music of men snoring
mead-hammered in the wine-hall,
Fills me with sorrow-feeling
for Fate does not see fit
To send some fingered folk
to lift the firm-fastened latch
That I might go grapple
with the grim ghoul-pooch."

Thus spoke the mouse-shredder,
hunter of hall-pests,
Short-haired Hrodent-slayer,
greatest of pussy-Geats.

9. Ever try "Soft Paws"? We swear by 'em.
Edited on Sat Sep-13-03 01:37 AM by CanuckAmok
The cats don't seem to mind the process or result, either.

and we gave our white cat pink SoftPaws, so she looks like Ava Gardener!

10. I bought a set for Willie, and what a nightmare
Trying to hold him still was impossible.. He ended up with one of them dangling from his whiskers, as he ran through the house.. He must have ended up eating it..

I just snip off the very end (the sharp pointy part) of their claws every so often, and they usually do fine.. My furniture is crap, so they leave it alone.. If it was new (we had planned on getting new), I am sure they would have shredded it by now :)

11. Ours don't mind at all...
...we cradle each in our arms, belly up. They settle in, paws in air, and we do the process (Mrs. Amok clips claws, glues the SoftPaws on, while I hold the monsters). They get treats afterwards, which we assume is creating a positive (or is it pawsitive?) association.

One of our cats is really high-strung, and even she doesn't mind.

But I guess there's no accounting for cats and how well they take to something...
