9. My Kid Sister is Dyslexic
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 02:54 PM by CO Liberal
She was diagnosed back in the '60s, when she was in 6th grade. She had to work three times harder than everyone else just to keep up, yet she was able to graduate from college with high honors.

I'm very proud of her. And I know all about dyslexia.

14. I just think that "and I know all about dyslexia"
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:06 PM by Beware the Beast Man
is a weak argument for making a joke thread that could possibly alienate and insult a number of DUers. I usually don't get on the self-righteous kick, but if it's a condition that someone can't help, it rubs me the wrong way when people make jokes about it. Same applies to the free using of the word "retard" around here.

Lighten up.

What I started is what's known as a "copycat thread". I don't need a lecture about dyslexia, and the challenges that those who are afflicted with it face. And if this thread offends you, you always have the "ignore" option.

I don't fancy myself better than you, just because I thought a thread of yours to be in poor taste.
Besides, screw the Alert functions, I like to do things the hard way!

22. Ha! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's that I smell? Why, I think it might be hypocrisy!

It's all right to call someone a horsefaced bitch (a condition Ann Coulter can't help, can she?), which could and did offend a number of DUers. You were all for that. But it's not all right to make a joke thread about dyslexia, because that offends YOU.

Well then. As long as we've got that cleared up.

27. Well, from my recollection
what you did was jump in and defend the original poster by making fun of Ann Coulter for being horse-faced, not a bitch. Horse-faced is a condition she can't help, without extensive surgery. So I guess I'll take my complete clue and head off into the sunset. Vaya con dios, sir!

41. I'm a Tech Writer
If it weren't for Spell Check, my writing would be unreadable.

I just remembered a time when I was at my parents house, using their electric typewriter to update my resume. (This was back in the days before PCs.) As I finished it, my kid sister walked into the room. I asked her if she would look at my resume.

Without missing a beat, she asked me "Do you REALLY want someone with dyzlexia to proofread your resume?"

I had Mom do it......
