1. SLEEEEEEEEEEP....SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP...
SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP...

"Put on the F***ING GLASSES!"

"I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick a**, and I'm all out of bubblegum."

They do, indeed, Live.

2. I admit to voting for "They Live"
Carpenter is doing Snake Pliskin comic books, so my hope is that some day we'll see a TL comic sequel. I know John wrote a sequel to the movie, so its not impossible.

John, if you are reading this, I think I'd be a great person to do a "They Live" comic.

Yep
I don't care to see many unfilmed scripts, but that's one of them.

3. "They Live," because I already voted for "Big Trouble" in the last one
I love "They Live." I've watched it over and over - I believe a reissue of the DVD is out soon. Definitely a worthy addition to the library!

The film always was frighteningly topical, and now it seems like it's not even fantasy at all. Scary.

I haven't seen most of the other films listed, actually, but I still think "They Live" (not, of course, including "Big Trouble" among the competition) would be my favorite.

5. What! You've left out Escape from New York! I don't talk to you...
anymore. Forget about Escape from L.A.
I love everything about this film, the music - written by Carpenter himself... - how could you leave it out! This poll isn't a poll. I'm angry and desperate right now!
Angry and desperate in Germany,
Dirk

11.  I hang my head in shame! Is there anything I can do...
to reach forgiveness. I surrender all of my public and private duties. I didn't realise that this was part two. How will I ever be respected again?
'call me Plisken!

9. EFNY was in the previous poll...
and it looks like it got edged out by "The Thing", which was also a damn good flick.

6. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that
the Timmy vs. Jimmy "Cripple Fight" scene in Southpark was a direct homage to the fight scene in 'They Live'.

Thank you, that is all.

12. They Live, We Sleep...
"They use their tongues to deceive. The venom of snakes is under their
lips! Their mouths are full of bitterness and curses! And in their
paths, nothing but ruin and misery, and the fear of God is not before
their eyes! They have taken the hearts and minds of our leaders. They
have recruited the rich and the powerful. And they have *blinded* us to
the truth! Our human spirit is corrupted. *Why* do we worship greed?
Because, outside the limit of our sight, *feeding* off us, perched on
top of us, from birth to death, are our *owners*! Our owners! They
have us. They control us! They are our *masters*! Wake up! They're
all about you. All around you."
-- blind Street Preacher (They Live)
%
"Our impulses are being redirected. We are living in an artificially
induced state of consciousness that resembles sleep."
-- rebel scientist (They Live)
%
"The poor and the underclass are growing. Racial justice and human
rights are nonexistent. They have created a repressive society, and we
are their unwitting accomplices. Their intention to rule rests with the
annihilation of consciousness. We have been lulled into a trance. They
have made us indifferent -- to ourselves, to others. We are focused
only on our own gain."
-- rebel scientist (They Live)
%
"Please, understand, they are safe as long as they are not discovered.
That is their primary method of survival. Keep us asleep, keep us
selfish, keep us sedated."
-- rebel scientist (They Live)

They Live (1988)

Frank: I've walked a white line my entire life, I'm not about to screw that up.
Nada: White line's in the middle of the road, that's the worst place to walk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nada: Life's a bitch, and she's back in heat!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nada: I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nada: You, you look OK, but her, she's real fucking ugly!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frank: The Golden Rule: He who has the gold, makes the rules.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Street Preacher: This world may have blinded me, but the Lord has let me see.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nada: I don't like this one bit. Not one bit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nada: Wooo. It's like a drug. Wearing these glasses gets you high, but you come down hard.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nada: You see, I take these glasses off, she looks like a regular person...

Nada: ...on: formaldehyde face.
