1. I bought the DVDs
Vol 40 has all the released versions of "The Cage" (b/w, color, b/w-color intermixed) - though for the old VHS tape that I have, Paramount did NOT include Gene Roddenberry's personal forward. :-(

Their Dolby 5.1 mixes aren't the greatest and are usually limited to ship fly-bys, but considering the source material (grainy 16mm film I suspect) they look exceptional.

"Corbomite Maneuver", though a fairly simple story, is well told. Early season 1 - or even most of season 1 is fairly good.

Sci-fi usually airs the stories edited so they can throw in more commercials, as any tv station would. Star Trek originally aired in a 51 minute format. Today it's down to 43 minutes (maybe 42 by now). 8 minutes of story are chopped out. That is just wrong. :-( You'll also notice that program lengths started to drop around 1981 after you-know-who became President...
