Hey Red Sox Nation - what if you lose the series?
Some of you are pretty giddy for a team that hasn't won that next little go-round. Granted, the Karma Gods are leaning so hard on your side of the see-saw that it's almost unmovable, but c'mon. That ain't chopped liver on the other side of the field, and there is no DH for three games.

Stay calm, relax, and hope - but don't get crazy! You've already done one impossible thing that NOBODY (myself included) thought you could do, but lay off the trash for a while. It's not very becoming, and.....

it could come back to bite.

P.S. I buried my dad ten years ago - with a Sox cap. Something tells me he caught last night's box score.

1. I'm not a long-time fan.
I've been a fan for about 5 years of my 17 year life so far, so I can't speak for the likes of Matcom and Will Pitt, but for me it's half about beating the Yankees, half about winning the series. If we don't win the series, we've already done waaaay better than the past decade. So it's pretty sweet. Besides, if we don't trash-talk now, we may not get a chance later!

5. For me it's all about beating the Yankees
I don't give a fig about the World Series now. The Red Sox kicked New York's butt. Justice is done.

2. Beating the Yanks is enough to many
But still...I see a victory over Roger Clemens in Game 7 at Fenway. Fitting.

3. Winning the Series would be icing on the cake...................
But, beating the yankees is the most important thing.

BTW, I'm not really a Red Sox fan, but when they beat yankees, I'm a Red Sox fan. :hi:

4. Couldn't. Care. Less.
I'm sure I will feel differently by Saturday, but as of now, everything that happens after last night is pure gravy. Curse shmurse. It only has power if you believe, and after last night, I don't believe in curses anymore.

This is some fine reading:

12. Well I gotta give ya props for that

I grew up in CT, grew up a Yankees fan (much to my uncle's chagrin, who worked for the Red Sox flagship!).

Back in' '62 my grandfather in Long Beach sent me a (then) California Angels cap, and thus began the love affair.

In '86, after they won the West, I said "Whew, they finally did it - everything else now is just gravy" - then Donnie Moore threw the pitch to Dave Henderson. I was in The Big A that night - flew out there with a Red Sox charter (with Johnny Most - who I still remember wasn't wearing any socks). Despite what I thought, winning the West meant nothing. That feeling never left, until one fall day in '02 when in a glorious Game 7 Troy Percival threw another pitch, and another feeling took its place.

Good luck to you, Will - I can only hope for you and milions of others that you get to see your very own Troy Percival throw that same pitch.

If he does, then you'll know that that feeling never leaves, either.

10. I disagree and I think the players would too
to have come so far and have gone thru so much only to lose the WS would be a bigger disappointment, IMO. I mean ask the Yankees after they lost it to the Marlins last year.

Merely beat the Yanks is not enough, if it only second best.

7. What if we do?
I'm playing it the same way I play it every year - hope and faith. You cannot be a Red Sox fan without them. Beating the Yankees and beating them in such a way is sweet, sweet victory. Making it to the WS is awesome. I haven't seen anyone cocky about the Series - we're all high as a kite from last night's game.

And I bet your dad is too!

9. yeah, what if you do win it all?
The curse is broken and etc?

But then what? Will you be like Yankees fans and expect it every year?and demand every ones head down to the batboy if you dont get it

I ask this from experience, because after years of futility, the Packers won it all, but now the fans are so spoiled and demanding that if they dont win it all again, they get ugly.

8. Beating the Yanks means NOTHING without winning the Series...
If you guys don't win the series, the curse remains intact, because the curse never had to do with beating the Yankees; it's always been about losing the Big One.

You all ain't out of the woods yet...

They would have won a Silver medal and been long forgotten by now. Al Michaels' call wold be an interesting aside - that's all.

They made the movie BECAUSE they won the Gold medal.
