Assuming you like Italian food.......
What is your favorite Italian meal?

I would have to say that mine is lasagna. :D

1. Mine Too
There used to be a restaurant here that had the best Lasagna I've ever had, NYC included.

Unfortunately, the older Italian woman who made it passed away and they closed not too long afterwards.

2. Gnocci
or Gnocchi if you prefer.

And of course, my Mom's homemade gnocchi, meatballs, and sauce were the best I've ever tasted.

And it's best to start the meal with Italian Wedding Soup. Again, my Mom's homemade soup was the best.

I'm still trying to duplicate the recipes, with only minor success.

Awww...now you've made me hungry....

5. Chicken Caccitore because its easy to make.
Take some chicken breasts and marinate in italian dressing for at least two hours then sear in Olive Oil until done. Next throw in a generous helping of vegetables (mushrooms, red onions, bell peppers, etc.)

When its cooked long enough, take a jar of Prego or some sort of marinara sauce and add then simmer for a short period. Sprinkle with permesan cheese when served on the plate.

Simple to make and amazingly good!

16. Muffaletta Sandwich
3 large garlic cloves, crushed
1 cup chopped green olives stuffed with pimientos
1 cup pitted and chopped "black-ripe" olives or Calamatas
1/2 cup roasted sweet red peppers, chopped
1 cup olive oil
3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1/3pound salami
1/2 pound provolone cheese
1/2 pound mild cheese
1/3 pound mortadella
1/3 pound prosciutto

Take one loaf fresh Italian bread (one big round for a traditional Muffaletta or individual sub loaves for smaller sandwiches). Cut the loaf (or loaves) in half, and scoop out a little of the inside to make some room. Make the olive salad by combining the olives and roasted pepper, garlic and vinegar. Drizzle some of the olive oil and juice from the olive salad on each side of the open loaf - use plenty. On the bottom, place some salami, olive salad, provolone, mild cheese, and mordatella. Top with the other half loaf. Slice into wedges (or eat the individual loaves).

21. Chicken or veal marsala.
Or any number of wondrous dishes that I have had in Italy and they never quite seem to replicate here. Scampi alla griglia comes to mind immediately. The scampi there were different from what passes for scampi in my Midwestern neck of the woods.

I spent 10 days in Venice in the fall of 1991, and had a very interesting Chinese dinner -- cooked in olive oil. Gave the spices a very different flavor. Hey, I love Chinese and felt like something different.

24. Linguini and roasted garlic
With a little basil and lots of Romano cheese. If you have a nice salad first, and top it off with some fresh-brewed iced tea, you're talking a quick, easy meal that's pretty healthy for you (as long as you don't go too overboard with the Romano).

26. A big plate of # 8 spaghetti
covered in gravy that has cooked all day with pork and beef and veal and topped with a mound of freshly grated romano cheese. On the side must be a salad of romaine and iceberg lettuce, cucumbers and onions with wine vinegar and olive oil. Although my granny, (God rest her soul) who made the most decadent homemade ravioli that the world ever knew, would care to differ...I stick with this traditional menu.

Sometimes I wish that I was at least a little bit Italian instead of everything else. There are so many delicious dishes. I don't like ricotta cheese but everything else is good. I'll have to go with Chicken Marsala as my favorite.

43. Veal cutlets with mushroom sauce and ziti.
One of the many great things about living in the Boston area is that you can get "real" veal cutlets just about anywhere that serves italian.
Out here in SoCal you cant get them. And if you do the veal is usually cooked improperly and tough.
