Where did you attend college?
And are you in the profession that you majored in?

For me, I went to Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
I majored in Communication with a minor in journalism.

I am now a sports writer.

and concentrated in music and audio engineering.

I somehow managed to end up in the computer industry. I wanted to be an audio engineer, but it was impossible to make a living.

So, no, I ended up in a completely different field...

But, I attended a bunch of classes at UMass, Amherst, Mount Holyoke and Smith that put grades on my transcript...most of my music classes were taken at Amherst and UMass, so at least I have a few grades on my transcript.

Then I graduated and realized I needed to get a job doing something so I went back to school at University of Houston and got my masters degree in accounting.

I passed the CPA and worked in 2 firms, then I started my own practice. It was going great guns until I became disabled. Now I tinker around with a few people's returns, that's it.

Douglas College (General Studies)
Universite Du Quebec (French)
Universite Du Moncton (French)
New Brunswick COmmunity College (Journalism)
Langara College (Journalism)

As you can tell I had a hard time staying put. I came out with my journalism diploma (associate degree) and a shitload of university credits. I often think about bringing them together to see what I come up with.

I'm a newspaper editor now, but soon, the way things work will be an afternoon news anchor at a radio station.

(By the way Washington DUers - the station can be heard in Washington)

74. True, true, and true. The joke is when I was there, I was with a crowd
that would be euphamistically called "bad girls" in House 01. It would have been nice to have been recognized by Jerry F. back then, but he was a nobody then. I do remember for a classical music concert in which one of his Liberty College students appeared, we were compelled to stand up, salute the flag, and sing the national anthem. My feeling was "C'mon, bring on the Mozart . . . "

And yeah, the policies for the professors are stifling for them as they are for students, but as for anything else in life, one can always work around them, if not ignore them when possible.

Nope, I am not in the profession I majored in. There are hardly any technology jobs left to get. There seems to be a severe lack of entry level positions. It looks like I won't get my opportunity to get my foot in the door any time soon. I'm kind of turned off by the field now after trying so hard to find jobs. I could care less if I ever get a job as a programmer or software engineer any more. My current profession is stay-at-home mom. I think it is a better profession any how.

61. Where didn't I? U. Penn, U.S.C., U.K.C.
which is to say, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Kent at Canterbury for Junior Year Abroad. To the extent I'm working (very little), I think it's fair to say that the International Relations degree from Penn and the Economics MA from USC have contributed not an iota. Not that that's anyone's fault but my own, but still.

Also known as MTSU. BS in Cultural Anthropology, with double minors in History and Sociology. Attended Memphis State - as it what known back then - where I worked on an Masters in Urban Anthropology, and where I was summarily kicked out of the department for not agreeing with the the Republican/Libertarian head of the department. To this day, many years later, I still think thats an oxymoron: Republican/Libertarian who is head of an Anthropology dept.? Well, we got along like oil and water.

136. No, Oregon
But my kids went to school in Stevensville, and a little bit in Missoula. And my oldest went to his primary grades in Havre. Back when Montana had one of the best school systems in the country. I read the other day the teachers are now the lowest paid in the country, lower than Mississippi. Would you tell people up there that when you put in Republican tax cuts and social programs, you get Mississippi and Alabama. What did they expect would happen!! I was reading Havre's endorsement of Denny Rehberg, it's a wish list of about 20 projects they need up there. How do they think they're going to get any of that with Bush deficits, Bush tax cuts, and Bush program cuts; supported by Denny Rehberg. It must be so frustrating being a Democrat in Montana right now, especially one who remembers what it was like when Democrats were running the state. Grrrr.

Only a little while longer 'til Duke basketball comes around again!

Never did much like the school - was too close to home for me to even want to apply, so I ended up going to that next-state-over version of Duke known as Vanderbilt. Now I live back here in the Triangle (unfortunately very much in tarhole country), and I get to go to one or two Duke games every year with my Dad. I try to catch every one on TV, too.

I'm doing nothing associated with Political Science - I work in advertising for a radio station. Definitely just a job right now, don't consider it a career.

For awhile, I became disillusioned with politics, but I am now rethinking it. Maybe it's because of the election year, and what's going on in this administration, perhaps I'd like to get involved and try to make a difference somewhere in the political sphere. I'm almost 24, so I'm still young and have plenty of time. I guess we'll see...

125. I'll Deny It If You Ask Me
BA - History Major, Business and Poly Sci Minors
MA - Education (Private School Administration)
JD - Law

All from a private Christian university that I wil not name. Believe it or not they actually had a young democrats club when I was there.

MBA - Finance (Investments) and Management Concentrations

From Oklahoma State University in Tulsa

Worked as a trust and investment portfolio manager until being laid off along with about thirty percent of my co-workers nearly two years ago. Responsible for the management of approximately $800 million in equity and debt securities in the two years before I was laid off.

Currently unemployed and contemplating yet another new career (before working in the securities industry I worked in both insurance and law). Some days I wish I had foregone all of the above and spent a few years in culinary school. As is, I am contemplating a career writing. Perhaps I will start by addressing the relationship of the Christian faith to the Christian political agenda.

Wasn't my first choice of schools but when you have to pay your own way, you do what you can.

I started out as a Communication Arts major, but at that time (early 1980s) that program at UD sucked. And since I was working at a job I thought -- ha, ha -- I'd have for the rest of my life (journalism), I decided to major in something I "enjoyed" -- English.

I did spend the better part of 20 years employed as a copy editor, and I now do freelance proofreading for a publishing firm. But this fall I have gone back to school to work on a second degree, this time in social work with the goal of becoming a case manager.

One of a dozen or so private liberal-arts colleges in the state, including Carleton College (where Paul Wellstone taught before he was a Senator).

I was a PoliSci major, and stayed the hell away from "professional" politics after graduation, because most of those graduates were more interested in power (or being close to it) than in making the world a better place.

I've never really had a job in my major, either, and I've done quite a bit. I managed a fast-food restaurant, sold insurance and mutual funds, built computers, and even worked in a pub in London, UK.

I am now a webmaster, employed by my state, overseeing the website for the largest state agency with an annual budget of $7 billion. I'm also an active union member and Democrat.

And I couldn't be happier. :D

139. Ursinus College
Didn't like it very much. Way overpriced IMO. Was like a college with a phony "closeness like a high school." The professors sure put you on your own a lot, and I didn't have the aid of living on campus.

I majored in economics but remember a lot more about my computer studies. Profit maximization occurring at where marginal revenue = marginal cost is a good lesson to keep.

147. College of Charleston
Charleston, SC that is. Oldest municipal college in the country, and I believe it's the 13th oldest institution of higher ed (1770).

I majored in mathematics and chemistry. Currently a grad student, so I suppose it's in the same profession: anti-lucrative academia.
