Poll question: Have you changed your driving habits since gas has gone up?
I was reading an article about people who have changed habits, gotten extra jobs, etc. But I can't really say that anyone I know really talks about it. I still know plenty of people that commute 30+ miles alone while other options exist. I can't recall anyone not going on a trip due to gas prices, etc.

Have you changed driving habits? How? Or adjusted your life in any other manor (extra job, 4 day weeks, cutting out something else)?

1. Yep. On my days off I stay home, sit on my ass on DU.
My 1980 Bronco (351-8 cylinder), get abot 14 hwy and 10 city. $63.00 a week to fill it up!

I dont drive unless I have to. I cut out the long afternoon drives with the wifey. I really have cut way back.

Maybe its just me but I try to do my part.

3. at two fifty a gallon
for the crap gas I am starting to re-think and walk. I am so cheesed with the new "raise prices on the weekends" crap. I try to buy gas on wednesdays.

4. An extra job to pay for gas? Really?
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 03:40 PM by tjdee
That seems surprising.

My life is adjusted because I can't buy that cd, or that cup of coffee and a donut, etc. because gas costs so damn much.

I have cut out a nonessential trip because I didn't feel like paying 50 dollars in gas to make the trip. When I think about going driving to nowhere, which I like to do, I don't.

Same as when home heating costs rise. The things I enjoy are the first to go. :(

9. From what I've been hearing, this winter home heating will be very high

Time to break out the sweaters and extra blankets. I got new windows before last winter, but there was no noticeable decrease in the gas bill due to the high costs.

5. I buy 8 gallons, more or less every three weeks
30+ miles to the gallon since I ditched the cheap tires and got the moderately priced set, and had my exhaust system fixed. I gained about 3-5 mpg after I did those two things.

I am actually driving a little more right now.

8. It was ok. I hated Nevada, to be honest, which is where
that picture was taken; A little place called Winnemucca. Me, I prefer colder climates.

10. unfortunately, i drive more now
i just moved about 30 miles away from where i work and have lived for several years. so now i am commuting. if you know anything about SE michigan, there is virtually no useful public transportation. so for the time being i am a major gas consumer.
but i hardly ever go into town on the weekends even though there is no social life for me out here in the boonies.
gee, maybe that's why i discovered DU.
the good news, i'll be moving back to town in a couple months.

11. Yes.
I walk a lot more, and only drive when necessary. I spend about $15 to fill up once a month.

12. No but don't really have a choice
I drive a lot for work but I do get a check each month from the miles I drove for work but it still isn't enough to make up for all the money I do spend on gas.
