1. Who Is She?????

2. she's this singer-songwriter with the most mesmerizing singing voice

and such an angelic face

she plays piano and guitar &c, and it has been suggested that she can do no wrong

she cut a new record about a year and a half ago with some unfortunate friends and it seems she has no clue what makes her records unique and so lovely

the record she cut about a year and a half ago is entitled "You Are Free"

if you are interested in her work you might pick up "Moon Pix" and "The Covers Record" which includes a fascinating cover of "satisfaction" sans chorus (I cant get no-o-o sat-is-fac-tion)

also don't ever attend one of her performances unless you are either very drunk or in love

5. Some of the songs are oddly cringe-worthy

ie Names

His name was Mortimer
He had attention deficit disorder
Life moved too unpredictably for him
He was eight years old
He was eight years old
He was eight years old

the lyrics are just lack DEPTH man

dont get me wrong, the album had the POTENTIAL to be a GRRRREAT album

but it simply didnt live up to its potential (1) because of the crappy production (might I refer to "Good Woman" in which the strings come FAR TOO DAMNED SOON) and (2) EDDIE VEDDER LENDS GUESTS VOCALS COURTESY OF BLAHBLAH RECORDS and (3) CHILDREN'S CHOIR

some of the songs just sounded better in the live recordings than they did in the studio versions (which is kind of surprising in Chan's case)

even if I want to marry Chan Marshall I must say that SO MANY THINGS could have been done better w/ that record to make it one of the most catastrophic successes of 2003

i really like you are free though. i think the whole album is great. i don't mind eddie vedder i guess. she has a dvd coming out in a week or two.

It is like a collection of music videos or live performances or a rock documentary or what?

I hope its a rock documentary. from what I've read Chan Marshall has led such an iiiinteresting life and she knows so many iiiiinteresting people who lead at most eeeequally interesting lives and know at most eeeequally interesting people

it's an experimental film of her playing a 2 hour solo set outside, and then there are some nature videos that are set to her music.

9. I went to one of her concerts about a month ago

Always a sight to see. How I wish, though, that she would learn to feel comfortable in her own skin before a gazing gawking audience.
