Football - help me with my survivor pick this week
So far so good. I made it through last week and now we're into week 6 with only 20% of the guys in my league still competing. My guess is it will go to week 12 until we have the sole survivor. It will be cool if I win it :)

Okay, help me chose my survivor team this week. Here are the teams I can't enter as I've already played with them:

Atlanta Falcons,
New England Patriots,
New York Jets,
Pittsburgh Steelers and
St Louis Rams

What team should I play this week? I was thinking of the Eagles... They play at home to the Panthers.

Or should I play the Bears? They play at home to the Redskins...

Or the Vikings away at the Saints?

1. save the Eagles for later
I'd go with the Bears - the skins can't seem to do anything right.

4. Yeah, but the Bears suck major ass too
I am thinking of backing every team that plays the Redskins but not this week with the Bears.

2. Go with the Lions! They're off to a good start this year.
I think they're playing Green Bay this weekend.

11. I'd stay away. The Packers are angry and looking for a win.

:hi:

Not to mention, the Lions have been kind of a poser team thus far, playing pretty weak teams except for their loss to Philly

15. The Packers Suck
Favre sucks and Ahman Green sucks. Detroit has been playing solid football this season, and they definitely have Favre's number. They can read him like a book. Interception city.

18. Well, That was not nice. Even my husband (yes, I married a diehard
Lions fan) will tell you that the Lions have been playing inferior teams. Sorry. Them's the breaks. Lions will finish sadly, probably around 8-8. But hey, it's a step up.

22. Sorry. Disagree. And yes, you were. At least I am happy for my husband
when his team wins. I just don't blow smoke up his rear. :hi:

24. I Will Be Happy For the Packers Under the Following Conditions:
  1. First, they have to actually win.
  2. Second, they can't be playing against the Lions.
  3. Third, they get rid of Favre and Green.

Under those circumstances, I might celebrate a Pack win.

27. Sour grapes! Look at what the Lion's did to Barry Sanders. And the Packers
could have had him. :hi: I had to kick this, seeing as the Lions lost. ;)

20. I wouldn't exactly call Houston and Atlanta weak teams
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 02:20 PM by Champ
Both have been playing solid football and their only losses came to division leaders Detroit and Minnesota and to 3-2 San Diego. Atlanta is 4-1, their defense has been great. The offense is not doing so hot but not much to expect at this point with a young QB under his 2nd offense in his fourth year, but he is still the best athlete in the game.

23. Weak teams. Sorry.
Not impressed. I'll be impressed when the Lions win against a team like Philadelphia. They were trounced by them. :hi:

I would be wary.

3. Buffalo, KC, Denver, Tennessee
seem like good picks to me, but then again don't listen to me. I'm usually awful at pick-ems

9. The surest bet is Denver, do NOT pick Chicago until you
take a good solid look at how many people they have injured - it's not just Grossman, half the team is down.

Avoid the Packers / Lions game, too. Take the Broncos - the Raiders are just awful.

I'm still in mine and am taking Denver this week myself, so if you go down, so will the guy who gave you the advice.

12. Happy to.
Week 1: Lions
Week 2: Saints
Week 3: Ravens
Week 4: Colts
Week 5: Chargers

My style is to pick the absolute worst team I'm even remotely sure of, because 90% of the people are gone after four or five weeks. So far this year it's worked well except for week 4, when I chickened out from my instinct pick (Texans over Raiders, which would have worked) and took the easy path with the Colts. In fact, my instinct pick was a more decisive win than the one I went with :)

This is the only kind of pool I ever win, BTW; I've entered six or seven of these things and have won every one I entered. Can't win a lousy straight-up office pool (not once in five years!), though.

This year it's been a fight, though. Last year the Texans knocked out 88.8% of our office in the first week by upsetting Miami (I picked the Lions to beat Arizona that week :) )! :)

13. Thanks, sounds like a great strategy
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 01:24 PM by ps1074
My league had 200 guys participating and now we're down to 40. The winner wins $2K. I just checked the past weeks entries and noone is following your strategy. Most of us had already used the big gun picks.

There is another spread pickem league I am taking part in with $6K first prize. I am curently 5 points behind the leader with 35-25 record (58.3%). I had a lousy second week :( I'll need a couple of 70+% weeks to make up...

Thanks for the tips once again.

16. DENVER!!!!
Save the eagles for later and the Vikings don't always play well on the road, otherwise I'd go with them this week.

25. C'mon, be a big man
Bills and Dolphins play this week. One of them has to win, and it might be their only one of the year. Pick one. Do it.

I'd go with Buffalo in this one, they're not quite as abysmally awful as Miami.
