I finally finished my %$@*$#& 2003 taxes!
I have not exactly been Capable Woman this year, and the deadline for my *second* extension is this Friday. I cannot believe how lame I have been. But the stupid thing is being filed as I speak.

The worst part is that I actually have an accountant! But when we moved in April, my late husband managed to lose all of our 1099s and his own W-2, so I had to replace all of that, then he died in June, so that set me back a few weeks in dealing with crap like this.

Anyway, I'm so relieved that this crap is finally done. Next time, I swear I'm going to have this done in February!

1. Dad uses TurboTax
He does his taxes in a few hours in January. He is an accountant, though. I suppose that puts him at an advantage.:D

2. Well, at least it's done...
I get to figure out my first year as a homeowner and the tax implications of that this coming year...

7. Technically, no...
They were IN the house when I bought it. I just had to install them.

Next up...painting the cabinets in the guest bathroom.

5. I know, I do too - ugh
But that's what I pay Frank the Australian (he sounds like a third-tier mobster....) the big bucks to figure out for me. This will be a complicated year for me on several levels; the least of which is the home purchase, I think.

4. Congratulations -- I Just Filed about Three Weeks Ago
Needed an extension for the first time. Used a tax accountant for the first time. It does not take all the burden off you.

I had a huge stack of stuff from three rental properties that was really hard to get through. What a mess. Glad it's over.

6. I have rental properties too
Fortunately, that and my small business stuff had all been done earlier in the year. This was basically my own pathetic personal stuff. The funny thing is, it's all so miniscule, it's a joke it took me this long.

10. Shoebox Accounting is Hell on Earth Come April
but I was astounded at the tax breaks. Good thing -- I put a lot of money in last year and didn't get much out.

8. a toast to you
With a move and death of spouse in the same year, you're entitled to two extensions and entitled to feel very good about getting caught up. I'll lift a glass of virtual vino in your honor.

11. You are not alone!
I just did mine today and I didn't even know about the deadline. This was just when I happened to get around to it. Penalty fee wasn't too bad, but the total amount (federal and state) I paid nearly doubled.

12. Due to my crappy year at my store I don't owe anything
I did the rough math earlier in the year. So, thankfully I don't have to pay any penalties and I had the extensions filed in time. Still, I can't believe I'm six months late with this shit! :(

13. Me, too flame
and after massaging that mutha (and holding my CPA's head under water) we came up with a $614 refund.

Last year I owed $5000, which is why I procrastinated this year.

You've had a rough go this year. I'm glad one more annoyance is over.
