Ever meet someone you thought was cool, but you found out they suck?

I was just thinking of this girl i briefly dated back in the early 90s. She had a great sense of humor, very attractive, and smart. Everything was great until i found out in a conversation that she hated gays, blacks, and jews. WTF? I was in shock! Needless to say the relationship ended.

Has something like this ever happend to you?

I've found in my lifetime that many charming charismatic people are rotten at heart. They have such self-assurance that there is no empathy in their hearts, they have life so easy.

I still get fooled from time to time, but I'm less likely than I used to be to aim to please people, and I try to be more tolerant of non-charismatic people's foibles, because in many ways, they are far more worth knowing.

4. You mean this happens to people besides me?

At one of my late '90s off-season college jobs, I had a crush on a co-worker who was also the daughter of one my dad's friends. She was very pretty, amiable, flirty, sarcastic, and my match in recreational drinking. She seemed to be excellent SO material, and I spent a couple of months wrestling with the exquisite dilemma of whether or not I should make a play for her.

Anyway, I went back to school in the fall and didn't have as much opportunity to see her. That was to the good, however, because I later discovered that she was writing anti-Semitic rants on Usenet (she herself was half-Jewish, so I don't know quite what that was all about).
