you can't do that on television! . . .
no, not the show . . . this actually refers to another kids show from the 70s and 80s called "Rainbow" (apparently British) . . . someone claims to have found a classic skit that actually aired on one of the episodes . . . the whole script is nothing but double entendres of the most direct kind . . . don't know if this is real or just a lovely put on, but either way it's funny . . . :)

you can see the script and/or watch the actual skit at the following link . . . (via Metafilter) . . .

http://rainbow.arch.scriptmania.com/rainbow_tv_episode.html

For those of you who don't have kids or are far too young to remember
the splendid children's TV programme "Rainbow", this may be a little
lost on you...... but it must have been a great episode to watch!
Almost too ridiculous to believe... These are taken from original
Rainbow scripts and there's no way these could have been done by
accident. Innuendo all the way....

The sketch opens with Zippy peeling a banana...

Zippy: "One skin, two skin, three skin, four.... "

George: "Zippy, where is Bungle?"

Zippy: "I think Geoffrey is trying to get him up"

We see a view of the door and hear Bungle moaning from behind it.

Bungle: "Geoffrey, I can't get it in"

Geoffrey: "You managed it last night"

Bungle: "I know, let's try it round the other way around. Ooooooh, I've got it in"

Bungle and Geoffrey enter the studio with Bungle carrying a hammer and peg kit

Bungle: "Would you stick this on the shelf, George"

George: "I can't reach, you'll have to stick it up yourself,

Geoffrey (to camera): " Hello everyone, today we are talking about playing"

Bungle: "Playing with each other, Geoffrey?"

Geoffrey: "Yes Bungle, do you have a special friend that you like to play with?"

George: "Yesterday we played with our balls.

Are we going to play with our friend's balls today?"

Bungle: "Yes, and we can play with our twangers as well."

- it goes on . . . and on . . . :)

1. Sounds like a British version of Soupy Sales:
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 02:35 PM by Richardo
Soupy (teaching the alphabet to White Fang): This is an F.
White Fang: Waa oh Wah.
Soupy: It is NOT a K, it's an F.
White Fang: Waa oh Wah.
Soupy: I'm telling you, it is NOT a K, it's an F.
White Fang: Waa oh Wah.
Soupy: Why is it that when I see 'F' you see 'K'?

Soupy was WAY incorrect for TV.

3. About the Rainbow video
Yes, it was done on purpose, but it was never aired on television (at least not within the scope of the normal broadcast).

4. That show is real
I used to watch it when I was a kid. Don't remember that particular episode, but then I was pretty young at the time!

But yes, I can verify that the TV show is absolutely real, and that clip is real too. :)

5. Superb!
That's definitely the real presenter, and voices for the puppets (I can't remember if the singers were regulars or not). For Americans to understand this, this is roughly the equivalent of Barney the Dinosaur doing this.

I suspect it was a one-off they did for a laugh, and give to people on video - anything as direct as that that actually got broadcast would be more famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view).

Thank you!

6. On Jr Yr Abroad in the UK 20 years ago, I was told there was another
children's show in Britain that featured (briefly) a sailor called Master Bates. Whether this is true or not, maybe Earl can confirm.

9. Yes it was
It was a lie put about by the seriously unfunny Victor Lewis -Smith. It went to court and he lost.
