4. They...
Used Proventil from a nubulizer, and Coticosteroid inhalers regularly. Weather conditions typically exacerbated their condition and regular excercise was beneficial to them.

13. Sounds like they had it bad. Sorry to hear that.
I know how frusterating, and scary, asthma is. I can only imagine having as badly as some here have descibed. Mine is rather mild compared to them.

15. Well if you have to have such a crummy affliction,
I'm glad you only have the mild version of it.

:)

luckily ive been almost free of it for the last couple of years.

had it pretty bad up until late teens, ive had long stretches when ive barely noticed it then some periods when I need inhalers again.

man im glad Ive never popped a lung or been in a coma. that is very bad.
mine has never been worse than a trip to the emergency room for a few hours.

I hated the misery my parents went through.

6. That's me!
It's only allergy induced though, and I have to say I prefer the asthma part of my allergy to the other effects, the nearly-constant nose-blowing during grass pollen season being the most notable.

9. Bwah! I love the 230 years graphic! My asthma is allergy induced..
...too. Actually I had childhood asthma from 6 to 12 years old then it disappeared right up to 6 years ago when I was 30. Now it's just a once every one or two month thing. Not too severe but enough for a shot of albuteral.

7. I suffer from asthma also
Wood smoke -- evergreen trees -- grass. Thankfully NOT dogs & cats.

I have to go somewhere warm in the winter.

The worse attack was when I couldn't breath and passed out -- lucky I landed in a chair.

Asthma is a growing problem in the US and probably is much worse with the Dope in the white house.

8. Me. Not too bad.
Mostly exercised-induced, particularly bad when it's cold... like when I have to shovel snow. One of those magic nasal sprays pretty much eliminates all the allergy symptoms I used to have. Besides that, I use Maxair before exercising & Azmacort in winter and when I have a cold.

I'm on Albuterol. I used to be on Singulair, but I can't afford it anymore.

11. I have mild asthma
It tends to be worse in humid climates - here in California, it rarely gets bad. I use a Seravent inhaler and that seems to control it well.

I cannot imagine how bad it must be to have a major attack. Just the attacks I had in Vermont were bad enough and they were never life threatening. Just tightness and difficulty breathing which is awful enough - it's frightening when you can't breathe.

12. I have asthma
I take Advair for it, with albuterol occasionally. Since I've been on Advair, I've felt a lot better. :hi:

17. Have you tried the Buteyko method to alleviate symptoms??
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 09:59 PM by tjdee
Curious if any of y'all have tried the Buteyko method.
Apparently, this Russian doctor believed that asthmatics get TOO MUCH air/oxygen, which causes a shortage of carbon dioxide in the alveoli in the lungs--the attacks come because your body is trying to restrict the amount of CO2 you're breathing out.

So Dr. Buteyko developed different breathing exercises to naturally treat asthma (and some allergies). One of the things the Buteyko method teaches is how, during an attack, you can teach yourself to breathe less (expel less CO2) and bring yourself out of it.

This site is kind of "buy my stuff", but they do explain a bit.

BTW, I have allergy induced asthma, I take Advair. The idea of taking medicine forever for this bothers me, so I've been very curious about Buteyko.

18. I had it as a child, last attack when I was 9, but it's baaaccck,

after being absent for four decades or more. Actually, the doctor keeps putting "reactive airways" on my chart but he talks about my "asthma." I guess he's trying to put off labeling me asthmatic.

I haven't had anything like what I remember of the asthma attacks I had as a kid, but if I don't use my allergy meds (prescription Sudal and Nasonex) and, especially if I don't use Advair, I get somewhat wheezy. When I get bronchitis, I really get wheezy. Fortunately, I haven't had bronchitis in a couple of years but there were several years before that where I had it once, twice, even three times a year. Bronchitis is scary, reminds me of being a little asthmatic kid who couldn't breathe.
