Has anyone seen "Grave of the Fireflies"?
Perhaps "Citizen Kane" and Coppola's "Godfather" saga are the cream of the crop, but for my money, "Grave of the Fireflies" is the most important film ever made.

It's sublime, heart-wrenching, and the most sober denunciation of war, selfishness and hubris ever. I wept for those children for days.

Please see this film.

1. I tried
Great film, but the kids were too close to the ages of my kids. I just couldn't bear it half way through. Hit too close to home.

3. yes
it was amazing. It left me in tears. I was even more blown away that it was a children's movie.

4. I just gave a DVD copy to the local library
Partly as a result of DU recommendations, I included it in a batch of anti-war films -- guaranteed that a lot of people will get to see it this way.

5. are you kidding?
I saw it about a month ago. Started crying when the little girl started getting sick and didn't stop until about 15 minutes after the film. I'm still emotionally traumatized over it.

The only other anime to have such a profound effect on me was Berserk, but that was entirely different.

If you haven't seen this film, you need to. Just be prepared to be utterly and totally shaken to the very core of your being.
