Poll question: Favorite Kubrick film
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 07:48 PM by FlashHarry
Sorry. I edited my "too many polls" poll--it was a triple dupe.

3. Whoops. I guess editing a poll doesn't reset the results!
Looks like "Strangelove" has an unfair advantage.

6. Well, it IS his best movie
And as for Eyes Wide Shut: I prefer to pretend he died after making Full Metal Jacket.

4. Barry Lyndon is my favorite...
Didn't make the list...

I love the scenes where he handcrafted the cameras in order to get the REAL CANDLELIGHT scenes.

That hasn't been done before or since.

7. Shit.
I was thinking "Barry Lyndon," but I forgot to put it on. Sorry. Maybe Ryan O'Neal's terrible Irish accent got to me. :)

8. Did you watch that documentary on HBO too?
I enjoyed everything about it, except for Tom Cruise narrating. I hate Tom Cruise.

13. Barree, Barrree, Barree!!
I definetly vote for Barry Lyndon. I've seen it countless times. There's something totally engrossing about it, not matter how many times I've seen it.

5. Full Metal Jacket
Because it is the best Vietnam film, perhaps the best anti-war film of all time.

15. Mr. Redmond Barry
1. Barry Lyndon
2. Dr. Strangelove
3. Eyes Wide Shut
4. 2001: ASO

Barry Lyndon is the funniest film I've ever seen. It's SO subtle in it's humor that few pick up on it. The "Englishman's" head shaking in anger after finding out that Redmond was diddling his future wife, Redmond's cousin, has to be one of the greatest moments in film. It's just how they are so obnoxiously proper and gentlemanly while essentially screwing each other over to the extreme, it's hilarious.

I'm a comedy fanatic though, his most "artistic" film is Eyes Wide Shut. Watch it about 20 times and the layers upon layers of meaning will come out. You'll realize that It's not even close to being about love and fidelity as you might originally assume.

20. ..hmmm
Edited on Sun Jul-13-03 03:35 PM by McDiggy
What I find interesting is that you find two films that are very violent, both graphically and psychologically, during their entire 2+ hours not in the least bit disturbing, yet a film that uses 3 minutes of a freaky sex orgy that was very much required for the "Kubrick dualism" motif is considered horrible. Don't judge before you see. EWS is fascinating.

And Monty Python's The Life of Brian was banned in Scotland for a long time. Go figure.
