Hummingbirds suck
I saw one today. There was something about the way it buzzed around that pissed me off, like it thought it was better than everything else.

2. Of all things to take a dislike to!
I adore them. In the Summer I have hundreds that nest on my 6 acres because I've been feeding them for over 10 years. Started off with one pair and now I have a veritable Hummingbird resort and spa. During their breeding months (June through July) I have 3 quart sized feeders that I have to fill on a daily basis. And, yes, they are cocky little things but I think that's part of their charm.

3. I think they are amazing!
I have a hummingbird feeder out on my balcony. Watching them hover in the air with only the swift motion of their wings is beautiful to me. Since they are such fast-paced creatures, I consider getting any chance to see them a blessing.

I think if a hummingbird is making you feel inferior, you have some self-esteem problems.

9. A hummingbird outsmarted you?
I can see why you might have self-esteem issues then.

5. I have several feeders also
and a flowering Quince that they love. Just before it blooms, they arrive to check it out and once it blooms they are all over it. It is quite large. They are amazing little birds. During courtship they swoop high and low and swoop all around the bush--they sound like a beehive that is overflowing. Beautiful little birds. I have never found where they nest though. I look forward every spring to their arrival.

7. Marianne, Have you seen the pictures of their nests
and eggs, etc. If not, I'll send it to you if I can locate it again in my old emails.

10. I know they are tiny--really tiny
and go out after the leaves are off the trees to try and spot one but I have never found one. Thanks--I would appreciate that picture.

6. Hey! Now thems is fightin' words with me
Don't be bullying things smaller than you! I love hummers and I put my feeder up every year around tax deadline time. They come without fail in mid-April!

Those little birds are better than anything else "their" size!! Just little helicopters! Just think... if it weren't for those little guys, we wouldn't have helicopters to carry sick people to hospitals from accidents...and to pick up wounded soldiers in Iraq. And take us to land on a glacier in Alaska.

Just teasing now. But BEWARE...they do like to check you out to see if you have anything of value to suck out!

:bounce: ;-)

13. they do think they are better
They don't know their size. I think it's hilarious. I lost count of how many came through here today. Dozens of them. And they are fighting each other every step of the way of the migration. It is just too funny.

14. With Cape Honeysuckles, I've Got Hummers --------AND-----
Cape honeysuckles-------native to S. Africa, like saltwater and SE wind. Fine. When it rains, the good news is HUMMINGBIRDS. The BAD news is BEES-----------

And, I am now SURROUNDED by honeysuckles (and BEES). They (the bees) could set up shop in my attic and put FIFTY POUNDS of honey where my insulation is. They like this stuff:
