1. Honey, his career stopped a LONG time ago.
You can't stop what has already been killed. Careerwise, that is. :-)

2. Did his wife beat him up?
Or am I confusing him with someone else?

6. Yeah, she did. Al Green got a lap full of hot grits I think.
That may be who you were thinking of. Cheating is a bad idea for all sorts of reasons, but violent reaction is one of them. Lionel Ritchie got beat with the ugly stick a long time ago though.

4. Def Jef once put out an album
whose cover depicted the "12 Disciples of Funk." Y'know, Clinton, Brown, Sly, etc. He said Richie would be Judas.

I don't care. I think Lionel Richie wrote and sang some great tunes with the Commodores: "Sail On," "Easy," etc. Sure, his solo career was a joke.....

7. Once upon a time, the Commodores were pretty good.
Deep funk band with horns and heavy guitar. Good stuff. Then Richie suddenly, somehow, grew as a songwriter circa 1978, and simultaneously nursed a penchant for total shclock ("3 Times a Lady").

Once out of the Commodores, Richie was free to let the shlock overtake the talent, which he did. "Dancing on the Ceiling?!?"

But you gotta admit, "Sail On" and "Easy" are great songs. (It's so weird when you and Paul peg me as being so negative when I like a real broad range of stuff...)

9. Are your nipples sensitive today?
I'm only f-in with ya. Easy is an AWESOME song - and a powerful earworm due to its dentist office play.
