I like McGuire, from his years as an old AFL pot bellied punter with Buffalo, but he never says anything creative or insightful.

At my parents' home in Florida I still have some of the tapes from Merlin Olsen's years as lead analyst alongside Dick Enberg on NBC. It is absolutely unbelievable he was tolerated by any network for so long, even as a spotter.

"It's 3rd and 10, Dick. If they don't make this they'll have to punt." I swear, that was Merlin Olsen's level of commentary for years. About 15 years ago I even loaned a few tapes to a friend who liked Olsen and didn't believe me. He returned them with an apology, saying I had even understated Olsen's ineptitude.

8. Hmm, I've always liked Maguire.

I like that he holds no one sacred. Keep in mind that a lot of people watching football don't get every nuance of the game, and having Maguire there helps.

Summerall, however, is TERRIBLE. I sent an e-mail to ESPN wishing Mike Patrick a speedy recovery (he had triple bypass surgery) and asking them to never, ever use Summerall again. Ugh.

And Joey T, somebody needs to just stuff a sock in his loud mouth. He is annoying as hell.
