My Cat Felix Is Missing. He Didn't Come Home Last Night
My handsome black and white tuxedo cat.

I made flyers and walked up and down a couple of streets.
I drove up a lot more streets looking to see if he was laying on the side of the road.

Hopefully, he just snuck into someone's garage or tool shed and got temporarily locked in.

I am trying really hard not to start crying.

:(

6. That is a good idea.
If it has rained or anything and the cat is lost, the scent of the owner can be washed away. Hope kitty comes home and is okay. I would call the local shelters too in case someone found him and brought him in.

I've done a lot of research in this area, and I know what I'm talking about. Also, some folks take pets and then return them for the reward that may be offered. Trust me. This happens more often then you think,

17. It's illegal
Where I am anybody who does animal research has to document where they get animals, and it's usually one of the big laboratory supply companies.

I don't doubt however that some people do take pets for the reward money.

31. oh yes NOBODY does anything that's illegal

please don't be niave my friend. When it comes to our kitty friends, don't assume everyone follows the rules. There are ways around those rules. Trust me.

By the way, taking people's pets for the reward money is illegal too so OF COURSE no one does that either.

When I get a chance I'll send you a couple (two, three, dozen) articles about recent court cases of people who sell dead bodies to Universities illegally, but wait a minute how could that be happening since it's illegal.

One case was a recent one in USC,

21. man i understand you have a great concern for all things missing
but it seems an insensitive thing to post a comment like this on a 'my cat is missing' thread. nothing like adding to the freak-out factor missing pets engender in one. info like this is less than helpful right now. demonstrate the empathy your experiences and studies must have instilled in you, man.

33. You may think info like this is insensitive...

but think about this. When folks with missing family members ask me for advice about what they can do. I know it's insensitive, but one of the pieces of advice I give them (besides the obvious ones of reporting to the police, putting up flyers etc) is to get the dental records together and give a copy to the police for obvious reasons.

Sometimes insensitive can save lives. I hate telling them this, but most understand the reasoning.

I hope to the Goddess that the kitty is locked or trapped in someone's car or garage and will find their way home, but isn't it equally insensitive to tell someone to walk around their neighborhood on a hot, hot day because your kitty may be locked in someone's car and time is of the essence. Isn't that equally as insensitive to imply that your kitty may be suffering somewhere dying of thirst so get out there and look for them.

Isn't it equally as insensitive to tell someone to contact pet hospitals implying their kitty may be lying on a stretcher somewhere dying after being brought in by someone who ran over them.

Ask the family of missing loved ones whether they'd rather know what happened to their loved ones (i.e. died somewhere) and get some closure or whether they'd rather not know. Most of them want to have closure and that's they understand about the denatl records.

Chances are I'm wrong (and I hope to the Goddess I am), but what if I'm not...

I also have a black & white fella named Guinness, who occassionally does something dumb - one time he hopped in a neighbor's car unnoticed, and was stuck there until the guy needed to go out again. Thank God it's not too hot here. We'll keep fingers crossed here for Felix's safe return.

When he is done sniffing down the neighborhood. He'll get hungry and he will know where his food is. It's stressful. I've been threw it before a few time. Mine always came back. I keep mine inside now but one still broke out once. He came back though. And the chances are that your will be back too.

20. I know you just die a thousand deaths when they do that
and they always pick days when the weather is fine out. My orange tabby Lucifer used to take off - one time he got caught in a neighbor's garage (there must have been birds nesting in there).

When he'd come back I didn't know whether to be mad at him or pick him up and hug him, so usually I'd pick him up and hug him. But I'll never let my cats go out unsupervised again, can't deal with it.

Good luck, may he return home soon!

24. I hope he comes home soon
It is extremely stressful when they wander off and get distracted like they sometimes do, usually they come back ok.

my Felix disappeared for over a day and a half a few years ago. It was February, and it was pouring the whole time. I spent hours canvassing the neighborhood., finally I opened the door to go out again and he nonchalantly mosied on in. Although it was still raining he was warm and dry, and looked like he had just been brushed...I asked him "where have you been?" and he gave me a guilty look and went under my bed (he never does that)...he had been partying it up at someone else's house!

Another time he climbed up my next-door neighbor's tree, onto a eave and into their house through an open window. (They were gone for the weekend) I was looking all over for him until I saw him gazing at me through their living room window...I couldn't do anything until they came home a few hours later!

27. Runaway cats usually don't go too far.
You're right - he's probably in a nice cozy place waiting for the appropriate time to come back. Cats have a way of disappearing and reappearing at a moment's notice - mine sometimes disappear in my apartment! I have no idea where they go, but they stroll out a while later as if nothing had happened (after I'd gone crazy looking for them, of course). Felix is probably right under your nose somewhere. Keep looking and put a nice picture of him on the flyer (that gets people's attention). Post flyers at your local grocery store, the pet store, and any nearby animal hospitals. Call the animal shelter too, for good measure, if you have one nearby. It may help to offer a small reward. Good luck!

My kitty (had her for ten years) was locked in a neighbor's garage for two days last year. Scared me to death.

It's definitely a possiblity. Try your best to stay strong, even though kitties tend to worm their way into our hears. Stay positive.

It's some kind of instinct they have. My cats used to disappear for days every year at about this time. I'd be a wreck and then they'd come home fat and happy and very self-satisfied.

I know how badly you feel right now. I hope he comes home safe and sound in a few days.

It was invaluable when my indoor-only kitty ran out last winter. She snuck out while we were loading the car to go skiing that weekend. When we came back, we couldn't find her - she had been locked out for 3 days. It was cold and wet that weekend, and we thought she was gone forever, but we found her a week after she escaped.

http://www.catsinthebag.org/

They give tips for outdoor, indoor, and formerly feral cats. Plus they have a message board with other pet owners looking for their kitties.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but I think you'll see Felix again soon. Good luck.

Lost Dog Found 6 Years Later
POSTED: 10:23 am PDT September 23, 2004

FROM: http://www.kirotv.com/weirdheadlines/3755331/detail.html
EVERETT, Wash. -- A dog that disappeared six years ago from its yard in Arlington is back home, thanks to an identification chip.
"Griffey," a good-natured, chocolate-colored pit bull mix, was found wandering last weekend and picked up by Everett Animal Control.

The microchip reader turned up his owner's contact information. A surprised Terry and Chris Sawyer are welcoming Griffey back to their family, even though they have three other dogs now. The Seattle Times reports a Machias family took the dog in when it strayed into their neighborhood and the family named him "Duke."

Jack Massarelli saw news stories about the dog and recognized him. He told the paper he's happy the dog is back with his original owners.

The Everett Animal Shelter is planning to give away free pet microchips Oct. 10 to 200 cats and dogs. The chips are inserted under the skin just above the pet's shoulders. Animal control officers can wave a wand over the pet, bringing up its number.

47. My favorite cat is a Siamese/mixed and she got lost
and was away from home for at least a week. I just happened to be going to the mailbox in my subdivision and there she was trotting down the street perpendicular to mine. If I hadn't seen her and called for her it might have been another week before she made it back. She did learn from her experience, however. Every once in a while she'll take a magnificent adventure away from home but she never goes far. Sometimes I don't even realize she's been gone a couple of hours until I open the door and she strolls in.

So don't give up hope. Cats have a funny way of getting back sooner or later. I'm sending Felix and you good thoughts that he'll be back - and soon.
