1. Not all chinese restaurants created "equal.."
I have one not too far away that offers steamed entrees, never puts MSG in food, offers brown rice, and doesn't overdo the oil at all for stirfries. Really great, fresh veggies available too, including stirfries with zuchini and yellow squash, asparagus, etc. You can even ask them to limit the cornstarch (important for those cutting carbs).

But, yes, I know what you mean about the run-of-the mill Chinese restaurant...

5. Thai food rocks.
If you can handle spicy food, its the best in the world. Their milder dishes are pretty good, too.

3. It's not the Chinese food
It's the Chinese restaurants that suck. I can make some badass home-cooked Chinese food.

6. Find a better Chinese restaurant.
I don't think this is a problem with the cuisine. (Pedant voice: Actually, there are several cuisines in China.)

I've had bad results from Mexican food & "American" food.

And pray that you never run into any bad sushi....
