How many idle, apolitical and yet disaffected males have the Republicans brought over to their side through clever and extensive use of moderately attractive female representatives? The ideology clearly aspires to appeal to the masses at an emotional, rather than intellectual, level, since any rational analysis would demonstrate that the welfare of the majority is at odds with the Republican platform.

A similar pattern can be seen with the male Republican figureheads. They usually project a boorish, forceful image, affect an everyman style and couch their dogmatic ramblings in populist terms. The Republican party's agenda gains immediate credibility as a down-home ideology when a regular guy like Hannity comes out supporting it in terms people understand.

Republicans are masters of the propaganda war. Progressives should devote some time to formulating and effecting a cohesive propaganda platform of their own if they want to maintain at least some foothold in this country's electoral process.
