Why Does Everyone HATE Streisand?
Can't figure out why. Is it her politics? Her being the ultimate Diva?Difficult to work with? What?

Just a side note over at Aint-it-cool-news.com, theres an early review of "Meet The Fockers" & apparently she steals the moive. The audience loves her & according to Stiller this is the 'old Babs' ala: Whats up Doc,Funny Girl, etc. I did hear in order for Babs to do the movie she insisted on having the best lines/jokes & according tot he review she delievers! Can't wait!

2. I don't know...to me she's a bit creepy...
And you know she just dominates the hell out of James Brolin. There's also something about her....I can't quite put my finger on it....but I'm a very good judge of character, and I usually listen to my intuition.

6. Why because she is a successful woman
Why not ask, why does everyone hate Martha Stewart and Hillary Clinton? There's a pattern here

All three are beautiful women who are highly successful and actively work for the Democrats.

Hate Streisand. Love Martha. Love Hillary. Love any number of other strong women (including the one who raised me and the one who married me).

Nice try though.

17. Wrong.
My disdain for Babs has nothing to do with her being a strong woman. It has to do with her being an overrated, insufferable diva who surrounds herself with a legion of butt-licking sycophants. There are plenty of strong women out there that I admire. She's not one of them.

Give me an opinion, any opinion, and I'll find a way to accuse you of a hidden agenda.

This is the same sort of a debating "offense" as ad hominem attacks.

8. Personally I find her annoying.....
I hate her over the top singing style. I have hated every movie I have ever seen her in (in almost all of those cases because I thought she was horrible in them). In interviews I have seen or read she comes across as completely enthralled with herself.

I'm sure she will be good in Meet The Fockers, just because of the supporting cast.

Yeah, it's great she's a dem and all but I just find her vocal and screen presence to be incredibly annoying.

11. two words: "high maintenance"
Some people love their divas, and some of us like 'em a bit more down to earth.

She's easy to like in a movie because she's playing a character.

To be fair, I don't know her well enough to like or dislike her, and any information I think I know about her is from reading some rag in the supermarket checkout line, where I also discovered that batboy is actually a girl.

23. An interesting tidbit probably forgotten, but Babs did a wonderful
tribute to the victims of 9/11 at the Emmys. Nobody recalls that.

Watched a special on the Emmys the other night. When the "world" (okay, we US citizens think that the world begins and ends on our shores and borders) was still recovering, the producers of the broadcast put forth a very tasteful tribute at the end, where all the names of the known victims were projected onto the backdrop, and Babs sang "You'll never walk alone".

Of course, Repukes try to paint her as giving direct orders to the terrorist pilots via her personal secured phone lines . . .

30. A little inside info on Babs.
My neighbor across the hall sang back up for her on her last tour (the L.A. show).

She had heard horror stories from other people that worked for with Barbra. Things like, you couldn't address her direct, she would not speak to people and so on.

Wendy said that she was a delight to work for. Friendly, charming and was VERY thankful to everyone that worked with her.

A lot of the change has come from her marriage to Brolin.

I don't quite understand this talk how she "dominates" him. Another story. A few years ago after they were married, James and Barbra showed up at a Bausc restaurant in Bakersfield (it's a local legend). The hostess recognized them and they were just nice as can be. They signed menus for the staff and everyone said they were wonderful.

31. When I saw her appearance on "Inside the Actor's Studio"
I got the impression that in her professional career she knows EXACTLY what she wants. A perfectionist. But I didn't pick up any "Call Me MISS Streisand" vibes.

She also seems just genuinely nice.

I loved when they brought her the plate of Kit-Kat bars and snacks. She really came across as a nice woman.

I think that she has mellowed since she met James Brolin.

25. Well, I like her, dammit
I've never met her but I think a lot of the snarky press she gets is because she's a woman who's a perfectionist and demanding. It's like all of the crap that's said about Martha Stewart. Example: on CNN yesterday, Martha was described as "obsessed" with her company because she wants to do her time so she can focus on her business. Have you ever heard any male (such as Bill Gates) called "obsessed"? Hell, no. When a male works as hard as Martha on their business they are called "driven." Women are called "obsessed" like it is unnatural for them to care about business.

Now, back to Barbra. She's been around well over 40 years and had done pretty much everything she has wanted to do in show business. Is she a bitch? Maybe. Is she demanding and a perfectionist? People who have worked with her say so. Has she earned everything she's gotten? You bet. As a singer she is legendary--ranks with Sinatra, IMO. Yeah, some of you may have a visceral reaction to her and that's OK, we're all allowed to have our own taste.

I do think some of the criticism (not here but elsewhere) of her is because she's a women working in a male-dominated and run business who wants to exercise equal power and the guys can't stand it. How many other successful women directors or producers are there? Sherry Lansing? Sophia Coppola? Out of how many male directors and producers?

26. I like her too
But people I talk to both repugs & dems really HATE her. I think she's very smart, well spoken, picks pretty good material for the most part, etc. I admit she's a diva & can be difficult but I'm sure J.Lo can as well & many other actors & actresses in Hollywood. Why single her out alone? Just my 2 cents!

37. For Me, It's Just The Entertainment Aspect
I think the fawning over her voice and talent drove the arrogance and egotism. Nobody could ignore hearing about their greatness 100,000 times. That was bound to happen.

But, that breathless, staccato, hyperthesbian delivery is like nails on a chalkboard. Great pipes, unlistenable style.

And, don't get me started on her acting. Hyperbolic is the NICEST thing i can say. She has the character range of a housecat, but that doesn't stop her from using her clout to get roles she has no skills for. (Think Prince of Tides and Yentl. Sheesh! Was she ever out of place.) She is also #2 on my list for actors who should have a court ordered placement in Overactors Anonymous. (Sally Field #1, Lenny Decaprio #3.)

I don't hate her personally. But, man i dislike her work.
The Professor

33. I don't, but in some ways she's out of touch.
The way she dresses, which goes from diamond-dripping glam to fake-casual expensive sweaters, and the haughty way she seems to carry herself give the impression that she's not down to earth - that and the fact that she's always holed up in that sprawling compound - her reclusiveness.

However, she also is extremely conscientious, gets faxes from the congress EVERY DAY to keep up with what's going on - she keeps in touch with politicians and donates many thousands every year to good progressive candidates.

I don't know her personally, but my impression is that her meager Brooklyn upbringing left an impression on her & that's why she never fails to give something back.

Also, she still sells TONS of albums, and when she does a film, it usually sells tickets, so I doubt that EVERYONE really HATES her.

36. Another great story about her.
She has said that when she was struggling and working in various jobs, she had a savings account in a small bank in Brooklyn. She scraped up and saved around $10,000. She says that she still has that account and that money is still there. She said in an interview that the money was a reminder of where she came from and how hard she worked to earn it.
