Let's send good thoughts and say some prayers for Syrinx9999
He's in Alabama, under the worst part of the storm right now. Let's send some good thoughts his way--He needs them!

I am in Mississippi, but further west than where most of the damage has occurred in my state. My friends in Hattiesburg have called to tell me that there is a good bit of damage even that far in from the coast (70 miles)--one of my friend's father's barn was demolished, and a tree fell on her brother's shop, crushing the car insided. Power is out in the Hattiesburg area, and is expected to be out for several days to a week, as power crews work to restore power to the coast (because the casinos are closed and are losing $350,000 tax revenue per day). So this is how bad it is in east Mississippi...imagine what Syrinx is going through in central Alabama!

And isn't Paulk a DUer in Mobile?

Anyway, let's send good thoughts and prayers for our Alabama DUers.

1. I talked to him tuesday
via pm. I told him to drive on up and stay with us if they needed to. I'm in southern Tn. He seemed to think everything would be ok. I'm going to call them tonight if he doesn't check in to DU.

It sure sounds bad down there. I hope everyone makes it through ok. :)

2. I've been keeping in touch with him via PM too. He wasn't too...
worried early on, but yesterday he became quite concerned. I pm'd my phone number to him, too, but I don't know if he has power or if he can check his inbox.

I'm firing off a PM to you right now, gore42004.

7. Hi Teena
I just taked to him on the phone. He said everything is ok, but the electricity is off. They still have a way to go with this one, but I think they will be all right.

Plus the ones on the Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast.

13. Thanks Jill, And Everyone Else Too!
I'm touched by the concern that you've shown all of us.

In the end, despite the forecasts, those of us in the Tuscaloosa area only received a glancing blow from Ivan. The storm move faster and moved more easterly than had been expected. Montgomery and Birmingham got hit harder than we did.

In Tuscaloosa, the winds got no higher than about 50 mph. And there were no tornadoes in the area.

Has anyone heard from trof? He lives right in the thick of the worst of Ivan, I think.

Again, thanks for everyone's good wishes and prayers. It makes me feel good.

14. haven't heard from Trof
My PC crashed and had to be rebuilt, so I lost his contact info.

Did you hear the Flora-Bama Lounge got destroyed?

17. I'm hearing conflicting reports
"has been destroyed" and "was extensively damaged."

Time, I guess, will tell. I hope it survived. It is the kind of place that Hunter Thompson would like. And he's probably been there. :)

15. Great! I'm glad you're OK!
We were just nicked here in New Orleans, except for Plaqumines Parish which was hammered. If it hit New Orleans directly, I probably would not be here right now, as I didn't leave.

:hi:

16. thanks!
Why did Mobile and New Orleans decide to build cities below sea level?

:)

18. Good question!
Perhaps when they were originally built, they WERE sea level. We have been sinking ever since. If or when the Crescent City goes, I'll go with her. I cannot live without Mardi Gras, Jazz, the French Quarter, New Orleans style bistro and creole food... how could I live without everything that makes me what I am?... on the other hand, there IS Brasil! To be honest, I only returned to the USA (I was living in Brasil) to vote and help get rid of the alien lizard occupying our White House.
