just feeling like sharing the love tonight!!!

Hey did I ever tell you I am in a documentary about gay rights?

Yep. This guy from LA made it. It's called Flowers from the Heartland and he's showing it in film festivals all over California right now, trying to get it on PBS! Mr. Moonbeam and I sent flowers to some of the couples getting married in San Fransisco and this director was so touched by it he went all over the country interviewing people as to why they sent the flowers. He even showed us a tape of the couple who got our flowers!!! Sniff, sniff. I cried.

Edited to add my neighbors said we were crazy to do it (he uses our real names) and I said I really didn't give a shit who knew we supported gay rights. Damn, she's shallow.

18. How sweet!
Did I tell you a friend of mine and his partner got married out there on Valentine's Day--it was their 34th anniversary. I saw pictures of their wedding. It was sweet. They were quoted by the AP and their names appeared in newspapers all over the world!

Ok so question: do you think the show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy just reinforces stereotypes of gay men or is it a good show to have on TV?

40. Uh oh....
Do you want me to go off on this topic? Okay..hold on...

I cannot stand Queer Eye for the simple fact that, IMHO, it's nothing more than a gay minstral show for Straight People. Each person/star seems to be a caraciture of what straight people think gay people are. I can specifically cite Carson because he's horribly cliched. However, I do not know him personally. Perhaps in real life he's quite the opposite, but he goes a bit over the top to attract attention from the others and the people they make-over.

When it comes to shows like this, I have to say I find them extremely degrading to all gay persons. It only reinforces straight stereotypes, which can be dangerous in the long run. If anything Queer Eye reminds me of something Ru Paul said about himself (and I am paraphrasing here) he more or less alluded that he was popular as a Drag Peformer because he was 'comfrotable' for straight people. He said his drag was like disneyland. Put him in contrast with someone such as the drag performer, The Lady Chablis. She's a hell of a lot more fierce than Ru Paul, and she never really enjoyed the spot light as much as Ru Paul did because she did have that edge where she made mainstream culture uncomfortable.

44. Well then I really can be your hag!
Because I agree!!! As "cute" as I found the show at first, I became more and more uncomfortable with the sometimes over the top characterizations (esp Carson like you said).

I have watched it with homophobic neighbors (I got them to watch it) and amazingly, they said they quite enjoyed it. Even the guys. They said it was really good and they especially enjoyed the cooking tips, clothing ideas, etc. If nothing else, they got to see gay guys WON'T attack a straight guy like they thought. Imagine my eyes rolling hard right here.

But it still left a bad taste in my mouth. Always has. So I was just wondering.

You know there's about to be a new network just for homosexual programming right? Can't remember the name of it. I hope it's a step in the right direction....

52. LOL..Str8 men
Str8 men are funny... They always have a fear that they are going to be chased after by some gay man. Now, mind you there are some HAWT (and I spell HAWT because they are hotter than hot)str8 men out there in the world, but the average joe american male who is scared of gay men crack me up because chances are... they aren't as desireable as they'd like to think.

Geez. I have told them a MILLION times, no gay guy wants your scrawny ass ANYWAY.

That always makes them chuckle, but it's usually TRUE.

Now Mr. Moonbeam gets looks from gay guys all the time but that's because he is HAWT as you say and probably gives off a bi kind of vibe (a little experimentation in his youth, but is faithful).

Moonbeam...

It's harder for them to speak up. Some may be married--

As for the Transgendered brothers and sisters, in my experience with knowing a few, they appear to be more quiet and remain so due to the backlash that they often get from those who do not fully understand their situations. However, this is from MY experience. I am not speaking for all and I don't profess to.

84. Another hetero girl
who loves gay men and women! Whoo-hooo!!!!

This brings up a point near and dear to my heart. I think if all straight people who believe that the LGBT community should have FULL rights NOW would stand up and make their voices heard, we'd usher in that day sooner by working TOGETHER!!!

I know too many straight people who say they support full LGBT rights, but they will only talk about it in "safe" company. In mixed company, they button their lips. I understand if it is your work place and you are afraid of getting fired (I guess) but in social cirles? Come ON.

Stand up, speak out, be proud.
