Anybody has any stories of cross species pet affection
Doggies and kitties that have fun and look after each other, for example.

Make sure to lay on the sugar. Pics help too.

1. My cat really loves the dog.
The dog is usually ok with all the attention and grooming
that the cat gives him. The cat will flop over on his muzzle when the dog is lying down, and start cleaning his ears.

3. My cats love my dog.
My dog is just afraid of them. No, he's finally, after 8 years, decided that they aren't going to murder him, so he snuggles up with the big cat. It's pretty cute. They'll sleep with their noses touching.

13. I knew someone who had a bunny and a kitty.
The bun used to hump the cat. The cat would just look disgusted but she never tried to swat the bun away. No one was ever sure if the bun thought he was a cat or whether he thought the cat was a bun. The cat of course had no such identity problems - she knew she was a cat.

9. Cookie the cat loves Wolfy the dog; but
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 12:55 AM by GoddessOfGuinness
Wolfy gets embarrassed and grumbles when she rubs up against his butt, purring. He reminds me of the cartoon with the giant bulldog and the teeny kitten who sleeps on his back.

11. Rabbit and cat
I feed a old white stray cat on my porch. One night I put his food out and noticed he did not show up. Looked where he sits on my picnic table and noticed he was there but so was a very large rabbit.
The rabbit was edging up next to him and leaning on him. It was fun to watch but then I looked at the food dish on the porch and saw a new black cat eating the food.
The rabbit successfully chased off the white cat and ran to the porch and watched the black cat eat - then the cat stepped aside and let the rabbit eat.

For weeks after that, the black cat and the rabbit stayed in my yard -sharing their dish of food. The cat begged to come in. I finally let the cat into the screened porch to sleep on a chair. The rabbit arrived later and slept with the cat on the chair.

Eventually the cat was allowed in the house, and I like to think the rabbit found a girlfriend up on the hill as he quit coming around.
The black cat was a young housecat that someone had just dumped. She had a couple injuries - and I think the rabbit saved her life.

12. there's a book out about a little mutt dog who sought out and
rescued injured and starving cats. I think its called the dog who
saved cats. <?> awesome book. Awesome little dog. She would go out and find them and bring them back for her owner to save. That dog saved her owner too, with her big heart. I cannot recommend this book enough.

16. Plenty, but no pics.
Sorry. I don't have a digital camera or a website to store photos on. :-(

From my current crop of pets: My dog Rain loves all critters. She bathes the cat, who allows this nonsense until she gets too enthusiastic. She has also bathed the hens, who also allow her to. The hens (2) range freely in the yard with her, and will settle down within 2 feet of where she is with no fear. I have 2 horses; the older despises dogs, but tolerates Rain since she is "one of us." That means she ignores her. The younger is curious about her; is always approaching to sniff her, nose to tail, and nudge her. Rain doesn't like this; she either huddles on my feet for protection, or gives a short bark to say "hey, back off!" I've never seen a horse interested in dogs before other than to stomp them.

From my past: I once had a cat who liked to sit on my horse's rump while I groomed, and who would "ride" up there while I led the horse around. The horse allowed this with no problem.

I have a pic somewhere from 20 years ago, of my springer spaniel and a litter of kittens. I rescued a pregnant stray cat who graced us with kittens. My poor springer looks humiliated in the picture; the kittens are climbing all over him, playing and exploring, and he is holding rock still so as not to hurt them. He didn't really want to play, but was stoic in his role as "uncle." He also lived peacefully with a hen, raised as an easter chick. With no other chickens around, that hen thought she was a dog, and acted like one. She and the springer often curled up for naps together.

I know a blind horse who has a "guide goat." And just recently, when a local wildfire brought in some refugees, I met a group of llamas, camels, and a zebra who live together happily. Not next to each other, but all sharing the same large pen.

19. Glad you enjoyed it!
Sometimes I think we could learn a lot about getting along with other people by watching the negotiations, compromises, and partnerships that form among our doemstic animals. ;-)

18. Our cat and dog just loved each other. They would even sleep
together, the kitty sleeping with his head on the dog's tummy. Sadly, our dog died of old age, and our kitty mourned him for months. He would go into the backyard (where the dog stayed) and meow, meow, meow, looking for his friend, every morning.
