Good triumphs over evil in Amazing Race Final
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 09:20 AM by Mike Daniels
Well, O.K., Colin and Christie weren't really evil although I do see a troubled relationship down the road for those two.

Anyway, it was nice to see a team (Chip and Kim) that appreciated their surroundings, were nice to each other throughout the race (editing?) and pleasant to all the people who they had to conduct transactions with come out on top of a reality contest for a change.

Also, it was pretty sweet to watch two teams try to get by FAA regulations about having baggage travel on different flights by arguing that a million dollars was at stake. Can you be any more without a clue?

I had never watched an episode of TAR before this year and I can say that I'm now definitely hooked.

1. Me too...
I had never watched this show before this season and now I even have my husband hooked on it. We were so glad that Chip and Kim pulled it out in the end. Them being last was actually a very big blessing in disguise-- I guess the last really shall be first.

2. Congratulations Chip and Kim!
There was an episode in Africa, in which the teams received their clues from a family in a small rural village.

The family had set out fruit and drinks for the teams, but they all grabbed their clues and ran. Only Chip and Kim stopped, put the race on hold, and spend a few moments to show their appreciation for the hospitality. From that point on, I was rooting hard for them to win.

8. Teams of two people race around the world
They started off with 11 2-person teams. The teams have to negotiate obstacles, perform stunts, and do tasks while racing against each other to far-flung places all over the globe. At the end of each stage (program), the team that comes in last is eliminated from the race. The final show, which aired last night, took the final three teams from Manila in The Philippines to Calgary, Alberta, and then to Dallas, Texas.

Chip and Kim, the married couple from Los Angeles, were dead last coming out of Calgary, but when they got to the airport, they found out that the flight the other two teams had booked for the next morning was being delayed by three hours due to fog. They arranged another flight to Dallas which was scheduled to take off a couple of hours later, but that would be leaving on time. The arrived at Dallas 18 minutes ahead of the other two teams, who had hadn't been able to change their flight plans, and that provided enough of a cushion for them to win the final leg and be declared the winners.

It's mostly a fluff show, but it is edited to make it seem very exciting. I was rooting for the Bowling Moms, but they came in fourth.

4. Loved that outcome!
I and my wife really enjoyed seeing Chip and Kim win it. Of the final 3 they were our favorites. We would have liked to see the soccer moms win it too, but alas.

5. I guess God didn't want Blondie and Ms. Hysterical
to win after all. They were always praying for him to help them win the race and were confident he would make it happen. Guess he had other more pressing things on his mind as they came in last on that final leg. Hmmm. Maybe the tantrum she threw on the snow/bike thing pissed him off, I don't know ;-) .

I was rooting for Chip and Kim almost from the beginning as you could tell they weren't selfish greedy people. Near the end, Chip & Kim and the moms were the only decent people left so I was rooting for both. I loved seeing cocky Colin & Christie eat shit in the end. Every time they got ahead they'd be gloating. (we're the best, smartest strongest team etc.) I don't know what I hated more, their gloating or the convenient Christians constant praying to win a million dollars. Yup, finally good did triumph over, well I don't know about "evil," but "annoying" for sure.

7. RE: Brandon and Nicole
I agree the constant petitioning the Lord for aid in such a petty affair such as a race was annoying but I got the impression that they aren't just convenient Christians.

Hell, Brandon actually vetoed the easier roadblock in Russia when the choice was a shot of vodka or blocking a bunch of hockey shots because of the alcohol factor. Hell (part 2), compare how Brandon handled Nicole's situation over the caviar eating contest over pretty much anyone else.

B & N had a few less than admirable moments in the final episode but they were my number 2 choice for rooting to win. Sorry, but the bowling moms were just too whiny whenever they ran into some difficulty.

10. Those two just pissed me off the whole race...
...what with their constant talk of "god wants us to win", blah blah blah.

Those two were in serious need of a clue check. God does not want you to win a million dollars, God does not want you to be in the race! It just cheeses me off to see people presume to speak for God, as if the Lords entire presence is all about them.

Why didn't the two of them take a few minutes to help some of the mass of starving and poor people that they were seeing in India, or Africa? Of course that is something Christ would have done. Instead They were acting like they were disgusted by them...

6. A good omen for Kerry?
Chip and Kim's win bolstered my faith in the goodness of humanity, as they triumphed over the "ugly American" Colin and his vapid beauty-queen girlfriend. Things sometimes DO turn out for the best!

11. Yeah!
Chip and Kim were great. I was so happy they won. They seem like good folks. And evil Colin and his sidekick Christie lost. I would have settled for the Christians, though the constant "God wants us to win" was kind of annoying. But he was pretty patient with her, and seemed like a decent guy.

Colin proposed to Christie on the Early Show. Ugh. :puke:

12. what odds do you think Vegas would give that marriage?
Sometimes competition brings out the worst in people but the African airport scenario shows that Colin has some real control issues.

Anyway, based on Christie's behavior over the last three episodes it does appear that those two really deserve each other.

13. A few observations:
It was pretty cool to see my neck of the woods on the show (Calgary). There were some things in Banff that were left on the cutting-room floor, strangely, the CBS web site has still pics of these.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race5/photo_gall.php?id=ep12_20

Browse through, you'll see them rummaging through a souvenir store and also setting up teepees.

Here's a good source for info on the Banff stuff (click on the photos link), and TAR in general:

http://www.hasbrouck.org/blog/index.html

Despite what the show implied, there is no direct flight from Manila to Calgary (duh). I assume they all took the same flights, made the same connections.
