A little request: If you have a Kerry bumper sticker, drive nice!
Yesterday, I was driving and I saw a car weaving in and out of traffic, at an unsafe speed and making unsafe maneuvers. When I got closer, I realized this car had a Kerry/Edwards sticker on the back. Eek. I winced. I saw this car pass a car full of older people, and when I pulled up beside them, they were gesturing at the bumper sticker and talking amongst themselves. This is in an area of the suburbs with a lot of swing voters.

I know it sounds like a little thing, but I think that kind of impression could be bad for our candidate. So if you're in effect advertising for Kerry, be courteous on the road. You might give a good impression!

1. I agree.
I've got a magnetic John Kerry bumpersticker. When it is on the back of my car, I drive extra carefully and courteously. You never know who you might influence for better or worse...

2. Me too.
In fact, if I see the 'Dubya ovals' on vehicles around me I'll be extra considerate. Besides, it just makes for a better state of mind overall.

3. Good point
I have a Kerry pin on my backpack, and commute via public transportation. I try to be very courteous, not jostling to get ahead, etc.

4. A couple times...
...in the last month or so, riding to parade line-ups or doorknocking, I've been sitting on the tailgate of pickups with Kerry and union stickers on them, holding my 22-month-old in my arms. I KNOW if I'd seen a woman sitting on a truck like that with a Bush sticker on it, I'd say, "Well, look at those lovely family values. One bump and that kid is flying right out of her arms. Republicans sure love their children too, don't they?"

But that's because I'm a big ol' hypocrite. If a Bush car is driving like an asshole, it's because they're an asshole. If a Kerry car is driving like an asshole, it's because they have somewhere urgent to go. ;)

6. Ha ha!
It's kind of like when you're a pedestrian in the city, you can't believe how rude the drivers are. But when you're driving, you're thinking, can't these damned pedestrians get out of the way?

I also have a Kerry/Edwards sticker on my car, and I know sometimes I am guilty of some bad driving. But I just try to be aware of it as much as possible! :)

5. I agree
I have found myself driving much slower and letting people merge (I usually do that anyway) with the bumpersticker. You ARE representing the campaign when you put the sticker on your car.

8. But if someone honks his horn...
...don't assume they're getting on you about your driving. Most likely, it's another Kerry supporter! It's happened to me at least twice -- they'll honk, then pass so you can see THEIR sticker. It's a neat feeling.

9. Yeah!
I had that happen too! Not exactly that, but a neat experience. What happened was, I passed a car that had a "hate is not a family value" along with a "work for peace" and also a Kerry sticker. They were stopped in the turn lane and I was passing in the straight lane. As I passed, I honked and when they turned, I raised a "thumbs up". The woman in the passenger seat put her "thumbs up" out the window and kept it there as I drove down the road, until I couldn't see her in my rear view anymore!

Liberals are mostly the nicest people. :)
